Hi was wondering if someone could please help me with a problem i am having

10.40 = [(p)(10.8160) + (1-p)(10)]/1.015

I know the answer is p = 0.6814 and 1-p = 0.3186, however i dont know how they got this.

Thanks in advance

10.4*1.015= []
expand the []

10.4*1.015 = 10.8160p + 10 - 10p
10.4*1.015 - 10 = p (10.8160 -10)
p = (10.4*1.015 - 10)/0.8160

hope that helps

ok well it just invloves manipulating the equation:

10.40 = [(p)(10.8160) + (1-p)(10)]/1.015

(multiplying fraction out, ie 1.015 by 10.40)

10.556 = [(p)(10.8160) + (1-p)(10)]

(by expanding whats inside brackets)

10.556 = 10.8160p + 10 - 10p
0.556 = 0.816p
p = 0.6814

as p = 0.6814
(1-p) = 1 - 0.6184
= 0.3186

hope it helps :)
