just to confirm... the raw external mark is aligned by BOS and this aligned external mark is scaled by UAC for ATAR? or is it the raw external mark that gets aligned and scaled?

The aligned external mark and the moderated internal mark is averaged to give you a final mark. That final mark is sent to the UAC for ATAR calculation where scaling is applied to it.

UAC scales raw HSC marks. This is the average of raw exam mark and moderated assessment marks

Wait isnt aligning done by BOS. I thought UAC scaled final marks only (ie the marks you get on your official HSC results).

UAC does not use aligned marks.

Fair enough. I always thought that they just took the final mark which appeared on the results you recieved from BOS.

The final marks, which mainly lie between 50 and 100, give less discrimination ability in the ATAR. By using raw marks with a wider mark range, UAC gets a better spread of ATAR scores.
