i personally don't see much difference between liberal right and the socialist alternatives. i was at the USYD o week and both are wacko fuckheads.

No, liberal means left wing, you had it right.

Labor Party: Liberal (centre-left)

Liberal Party: Conservative (centre-right) - Originally called "liberal" because they consider themselves to be economic libertarians.

In your BOS profile, for example, if you put "conservative" you would be a liberal party, one nation or nationals party voter. If you put "liberal" you would most likely be green, democrats or ALP.

Economic liberalism and social conservatism are completely different things. The labor party believes in more government intervention in people's lives (re:internet censorship, alcopop tax) and more government intervention in the economy. They are in no way liberal.
