I always thought Modern had such better scaling than Ancient, but look at this scenario:

My sister did her HSC in 2004, and got 84 for her Modern Exam mark, and I got 86 in Ancient.

In our internals, she consistently got in the 80's and sometimes low 90's.

I got:

1. Task 1, 20/30, 67%, Weighting 6.7/10.
2. Task 2, 17/25, 68%, Weighting 17/25.
3. Task 3, 40/65, 62%, Weighting, 6.2/10.
4. Task 4, 28/35, 80%, Weighting, 20/25.
5. Task 5, 59/100, 59%, Weigting, 17.7/30.

So overall, 68%. Pretty average marks, I was a one hit wonder in Task 4, possibly the most overrated Ancient student at our school. I came 6/24, thanks pretty much solely to that one task. The best I came in any of the other 4 was 8th. People thought I was great for getting such a good rank, but it was only because I came 3/24 in that one.

Somehow, my Ancient school mark was 81, and exam mark was 86. My sister got 84 for each, so we tied, but how did I beat her in external? I am baffled.

an 84 in modern >86 in ancient.

those marks are scaled oncemore /100 for a their uai contribution, 5 subjects worth 2 units which total a mark out of 500.

running it through einstein...

86 in ancient scales to 70.4/100

84 in modern scales to 71/100

pretty close in the end hmmm.

if you have a look at all the scaling reports 05-08 you'll see that moderated mean from modern is always marginally higher than ancient.

I did both.
And found that Ancient probably helped my UAI because it was a kick ass subject to do, but that my Modern mark of quite a bit less possibly equated to a similar amount :S

But I still worked harder at Modern and did worse LOL.
