Does anybody know what the band 6 cut off was last year, or what it usually is?

Well, if you think about it, the 21-25 in an essay is classified as a band 6 response.

That's the essay though... what about the Pompeii and Herculaneum section where it's really not all that difficult at all to get 23-25?

They moderate the rest of the different options using the marks from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Thus the better you do in the Core, the more it will help you. I think it is 21 and about in each section, except the core where it is approx. 23/24 to get a band 6

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe your school marks easier and 21/25 seems to be an easy mark to get. Maybe my school marks harder and 21/25 is hard to get. Until we do the HSC and get our marks back, we won't know if our perception of 21/25 answer is the same or different, so it can be easy, it can be hard. At least the markers attempt to give marks, not take them away. Good luck though
