Choose subjects that you enjoy or that are prerequisites for your desired university course(s). Do not choose them based on any (perceived) scaling benefit - i.e. only do ext 2 maths if you are capable and if you are capable don't choose General maths...
Then studying shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

try to finish things as soon as possible try to do things the way u might for hsc that way if u notice u have done it wrong in year 11 you wont do it in year 12, year 11 is a good practice year before hsc although i still managed to bomb out in hsc year

This is what I told myself I'd do come year 12... didn't work.
Try and go over each of your subjects each day. Just 5 minutes a subject, then at the end of the week, go through everything again, read over stuff in a couple of weeks, then a couple of months... meant to help you remember stuff.
Write revision notes as you finish a chapter's work... then before exams, you can read over them and do a lot of practise questions and not have to go through all your work again to make revision notes.
Having said that, I did great last year and didn't do any of that. You know those teachers who digress and talk about random stuff, still in that topic, but nothing to do with what you're meant to be studying -now-? Take notes. My bio teacher is like that, and some of the stuff is interesting or good background knowledge to have. And when he brings it up again in x months, it's good because you know a bit about it.
Basically - DON'T LET WORK PILE UP. You'll have a lot more sleep and a much better year if you're not really stressed every few months when assessment task time rolls around. I stayed up till 6:30am doing a my SGP and that was the worst night...

summarise all your subjects as you go, or when u finish a topic so when it comes to midyears trials and the hsc u hav it all there and dont hav to go thru ur notes ... and learn how to study b4 yr 12 so it comes more naturally ... and dont drop out afta yr 11 (sounds stupid but i know heaps of ppl doin it) coz its only one yr

What subjects are you doing? I have different methods for all mine:
Mod. history Think of what you're learning more as a story, look at your notes for a few minutes, tell the story to the poster on your wall a few times, look at notes again to see what you missed, repeat...
German Make a list of new vocab you need to learn and carry it around in your pocket all the time. When you're on the bus/waiting at the train station/whenever look at them and learn a new word or two. At the end of the day, write a little 'diary entry' with all the words you learned and read the whole thing every few weeks to refresh your memory. Also good for languages - just think back to whatever you learned in school that day and try and talk/think about it to yourself in that language.
General maths Learn the formulas (stick 'em up somewhere or say them over and over till they're in your head) and then do loads of practise exercises. it's good if you have your own book so you can underline all the important info in the questions, which stops you from mucking up when it's a wordy question. Even if your teacher doesn't go through the book that often or set homework, do the exercises yourself. I like the structure of going through a textbook and knowing I've covered everything.
Biology You get sick of hearing it, but this one is all about the syllabus dot points. Teachers get your assessment tasks right off them, so if you've made your own summaries, you're one step ahead. Also there's a lot to remember, so make summaries as you go. Be concise.
English OK, I never really revised much for this. But here's a tip for your speeches - learn them. Even if it's just the start, a bit from the middle and the conclusion, because that's when most people pay attention. You'll be able to look around and make eye contact, which really impresses the teachers. My assessment was worth 30%, 10 marks were for how well you presented your speech and only 5 were for how good the stuff you'd written was. I got full marks because I'd memorised a lot of mine.
Geography I had an open book assessment - just read the textbook the night before and make sure you know exactly where the stuff you need is. Also, do a lot of practise on the skills based questions. Reading the theory isn't enough, you need to practise or it's easy to make stupid mistakes. When doing the case studies, make sure you know where they are and all the stuff about the biosphere, lithosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere. Make notes in the form of a fact file and learn them!
Take the time to learn little tidbits when you can - on the way to school, when your parents are driving you somewhere, at the bus stop, in the adbreaks while watching TV, while you're doing the dishes, whenever. All adds up.

- DO NOT LEAVE THINGS TO THE LAST second , as in staying all night doing it and finding out your printer doesnt work / out of ink
- Say to your self that year 11 means everything , some of the year 11 work goes on to year 12 like maths etc.

Seriously, you cant afford to miss out on classes in year 12, there's too much work to catch up on, and th e problem with that is that without a teacher you wont understand it.
The secret is to start early. I had this guy come over our school today, he was from some centre for motivation speaking or something, but it wasnt ur usual motivational speech - the important point he stressed was that from the begining of Year 12 you only really have 30 days until your first HSC exam - the rest of the time is spent on committments for sport, socialising, travelling, school, etc. (this is for the average student). So yeah, dont leave it till its too late

Definitely don't let the assesments pile up. I'm not saying you should start and finish a month early, but if you spend an hour doing an assesment when there's nothing on TV (etc etc) then that's a free hour on the weekend/the night before it's due. Just do everything at your own pace, so while everyone's stressing about an assesment the day before its due you can laugh because you're prepared .
P.S - Do all your homework as well, that way you won't have to read a whole textbook when exam time comes. If you have notes on each topic it's much easier to revise and do well.

seriously...its year 11. dont take it seriuosly. enjoy it.
keep on top of your workload, and make sure you understand all the work so you arent flabbergasted when you get to year 12 and it all counts. but in year 11, it matters shit all.
unless you feel you need to get into a habit of studying, dont really bother for year 11. i knew i had enough self-discipline to bludge through year 11, and be able to get fully on track in year 12. so far ive had one term of year 12, and ive managed to get above 95% in all assesments.
so yeh. take home message. enjoy year 11.

Don't be like all stressy and stupid because its only yr11, try different study methods, make sure your happy with your subjects, change at the start of yr11 if you dont like them because i know soo many ppl who r in yr12 and hate half their subjects.

My advice is: Don't burn out on year 11. It doesn't count. I didn't study for year 11, but I essentially learnt how to and that I had to, which I'm putting to good effect now in year 12.
