Year 12 starts and i start going down hill. My half yearlies were horrible and even caused me to break down and cry in one of my classes after failing:S Advanced maths!

Even though i think i studied, i know i didnt study enough. i keep getting distracted by MSN, TV, music..just everything around me. But these marks i got back have really woken me up. To see others get high 80's and 90's shows its possible and that im just being lazy.

At first i thought its pointless to study because i dont seem to get anywhere. I really felt and still feel stupid. But in reality, i know if i studied harder im sure ill get better...atleast i hope i do. Ive decided to make a timetable for after school study which i probably should have done a long time ago. And im just not gonna have a social life..as bad as that sounds....in the long run, One year of having no social life is not as important as our whole future.
If anyone else has any suggestions about study methods please let me know

Thanks

I wasn't happy with my results Term 4 last year. (65% - 80%).
But have put in extra work this term and have recieved 100%, 95%, 85%, etc.

All it takes is a little extra work.

My half-yearly's start next week and due to bludging last term i have been doing alot of extra study on topics i bludged through.

Just need to get in a routine.

i just hate yr12, ive done like 10 times more work than i did in yr11, plus i havent socialised much, which sucks big time, hoping i get band 6 for all my subjects and my uai is hopefully 97+. got half yrly exam results bak on friday, i was quite impressed with my marks, but i can still do better. Weird how i hate yr12.

I'll tell you wtf is going on. We taking year 12 too easy. We are too busy thinking about what we r gonna do on the weekands, or what we r gonna wear, or year 12 formal, or anything that is other than the HSC. If we want a high UAI then we gotta give our attention to school this year whether we like it or not. Oh and if you ask others if they are studying and they say No, but when they get their marks back they do heaps batter than you... THEY LYING!!! If you ask someone if they started to study and they tell you no, you immediatly feel better about not studying youself. It makes you think ' hey if they havent studied either then its ok'..you cant not study and get a high 80's mark...they bullshitting you.

goodluck to everyone who is doing their half yearlies during these next 2-3 weeks. :)

Amen to that. Reminds me of how our maths book at the end of their intro always say, there is no need to wish u good luck because hard work has its rewards. :)

Actually, you can. I did it last year for HSC Extension 1 English, for the half-yearlies. But of course if you get high 80's without studying, you can do heaps better if you actually put in the work.

And if you try to not think about or do 'anything that is other than the HSC', I can guarantee you two things. One, you won't be able to do it; it's simply not possible. Two, you'll burn yourself out, stress heaps, and not do as well as you can. Try and balance yourself out. It's OK to think about what you're going to wear, and go out at night sometimes. Please don't cut yourself off from the world because of the HSC. You'll regret it later.

*sigh* its only your half-yearlies..god!
i fucked up my half-yearlies & trials....no biggy. & i didnt study much..but i got one band 3 (69), one band 5 & the rest were band 4s. sure its added to your HSC mark. but failing your HSC isnt the bloody end of the world.

I know one person from my year who was a study-nut! she studied the most & her mum was a teacher. She had notes & notes & notes. & she got the average UAI.....so yeah. Dont over-study...waste of time:)

have you tried mind-maps?

hey suchet i,
My brother is doing an aeronautical engineering at sydney university. He really enjoyed his first year, achieveing HDs Ds etc. Although hes in his second year and its apparently extremely hard...
I hope you get into the course you want... Hard work will get you there... then the hard work continues for the next 4 or so years...

As for being depressed about exams, i shed many many tears
i just want to know if there is a way of making up for some pretty average mid course marks????

Results so far
Maths 73% (bad i know)
PE 83% (also pretty bad)
Drama 93%

Hey tazball, that Drama mark is excellent indeed. To everyone else, don't stress--just put your head down and go. Before you know it, it'll be all over. And you're lucky to have half-yearlys--my school didn't and so no-one had any practice before trial time = everyone failing trial, and therefore only having the one practice run for the real final exam. You guys have two, so think of it as a learning experience! Also bad marks are a major motivator, so use that to your advantage.

hey taz,
just some tips on studying well
well its obvious that the more you study the higher marks you will get
but the hard part is actually studying that much
it is best to work consistent through the year rather than two weeks before the exams
like for these half yearlies i started making notes and studying during the christmas holidays and also as soon as term started i minimised all my entertainment. and on the nights before the exams i actually wasnt stressed out that much (except for 4unit maths lol)
any ways the thing that motivates me to study is i think of this as the last year i will be putting so much effort. i take it as a thing that i just have to get over and done with. just waste your self in studies this year and then lots of partying.
also for me, since i am aiming for a high uai i feel guilty inside my self if i start to bludge studying.
so any ways i hope we both do good in our final year of school
:D
