Nothing wrong with bonded. If you really want to do medicine it shouldn't be an issue.

I know this sounds kind of naive but as a general rule, given your financial/family situation is fine, would you take interstate unbonded or bonded to your home state?

i'd say interstate unbonded. Unbonded over bonded anyday.

If you get interstate unbonded and want to come work in NSW you'll most likely be in a workforce shortage area anyway. Although the length of work to get rid of bonded status is longer than your training post.

Some people would take bonded in NSW just for the opportunity to work at RNS, RPA etc. so they can set yourselves up for the future.

Agree in general but at the same time you have to prioritise where you want to see yourself after a certain period of time too
It's hard to be so definite when you are still a high school student. You can always buy out of bonded. If you miss one year of work by not accepting a bonded offer your 1 year of work probably could have paid off your bond.

Yet assuming you don't pay off your bond... you would be working in an area of workforce shortage until the age of 29.

By 29, many people consider their "youth" to be behind them.
depending on the field you're working in, an area of workforce shortage isn't necessarily even rural

and that's assuming you don't pay it off when if working in an area of workforce shortage is an issue for you, that's what any reasonable person would do tbh

i don't think anyone becomes a full-on consultant by 29, even if you work in a non urban environment with a bond, you're ultimately gonna end up doing essentially the same stuff people your age are doing in urban hospitals. Of course you might have less exposure to certain specialties but again, you could just pay the bond off if this is an issue

Gold Coast has really new facilities, as well as a nice university hospital next to the campus - so should have sufficient opportunities!
The only catch is that, while there is provisional entry to Med at Griffith, the bottom 25% [percentile] of the cohort will have to be bonded (even if they get credits, distinctions, etc)
Bottom 25% of the BMedSc course or MD?
