The question wasn't accommodation related.
Would it be better to apply for a course in 2009 for 2010 but defer a year so you attend in 2011 or just apply in 2010 for 2011?
I hope that makes more sense.

ok i spoke to jason over msn.
We have both discussed it and still dont understand the question. You can only "apply" to go to anu the year before you actually go in (unless you defer). The benifit of deferring i spose is that you now have a place which i think is secured.

I think if I spell "differ" as "defer" then you may get it lol. ???
So I apply in 2009 for 2010. But then I defer and attend in 2011.
Or I apply in 2010 and attend in 2011.

First scenario has the benefit of a secured place. But it depends on how much demand there actually is to get into ANU's science school...

if i was you i would apply in 09 then defer. Just remember you lose your place if you don't rock up in 2011 to study. the benifit of deferring is that you get that guaranteed spot and if somethign fuks up like you dont get in, you can still apply in 2010.

(i dont know the specific guarantees regarding defering etc - so dont hold me to anything - check the anu site)

Okay, thanks heaps! I don't know what will happen between 09-011 but hopefully it'll all workout. I'll give them a ring (next year prob) and I have to go down there anyway to select my electives anyway, don't I? There's no way I can do it online or anything?

a) applying in 2009 with the intention of defering in 2010 so (s)he can go to uni on 2011
b) just holding out and applying as normal in 2010 for a 2011 start.

If you defer, you won't have to pick electives until the year you decide to study.
