q: find the area of the region bounded by the parabolas y = x^2 and y = 4 - x^2

i sketched both parabolas and clearly y = 4 - x^2 is the curve on top of the region.

therefore: 4 - x^2 - x^2 = 4 - 2x^2

they intersect at minus root 2 and root 2

i integrated this. but the answer at the back of the book is suggesting that the curve y = x^2 is on top. can anyone explain?

I reckon y = 4 - x^2 is on top too. =S
