question:

how exactly do the weightings of assessment tasks contribute to ranks? i mean, i understand the general principle of it being better to do well on highly weighted assessments, but how are they collated?

i presume that having three tasks of the same weight would mean that the average would be found by adding and diving by three, but what about differently weighted tasks? say, if i get 85% on a task worth 25%, how does that compare to getting 90% on a task weighted 10%? or is it all worked out on the program teachers enter our marks on?

they recalculate your mark based on the percentage for the final mark/rank.

so for e.g., you get 90/100 in an assessment worth 25%.

0.90 x 0.25 = a mark of 22.5 / 25, then they add them all up.

on each assessment notification they'll tell you the weighting of the assessment

if an oral is 10% for example, and you got 14/15, than your mark will be .933 x 10 = 9.3 out of 10

If the task was worth 10% and you got 14/15 you convert the 14/15 to a percentage (I assume that you have learnt how to do this) = 93.3% and then divide that by 10 to get 9.33/10.

After all the assessment tasks have been done and they have all been converted to the various marks that they are worth the total will equal a mark out of 100. Based on these marks the ranks will be determined.
