Im in yr 11 and am wondering what is important for your atar.?

what do you need to get a high atar?

How does your atar get calculated and how is your ranks in your classes important?

do your school ranks in your classes contribute to your atar and do they have an impact on your atar?

feedback on how the atar works please

There are enough threads for you to search at to get the answer. Also your school should've at least covered the basics around atar and subjects with you, if not go to the careers advisor and asks how things work. Come back if you still don't get an answer....and someone will help you(ill probably do it). Just get a habit of searching past threads.

I'm in Year 11 too :D , but after doing a significant amount of research, I found out that:
- To get a good ATAR, one needs to consistently achieve high marks for every subject. This includes in assessment tasks, quizzes, tests, half yearlies and yearlies, trials and the HSC exam.
- Rank is crucial. Maintaining a position in the top 3 of each of your subjects ensures top marks. Particularly if you come first! Let's say for instance you got a 95 in Biology in the trials, and this was the top mark. When sitting for the HSC, even if one of your peers get a 96, 97, 98, or 99, you will take their mark- as you were the one ranked FIRST, hence the highest mark achieved in the class should ultimately be yours.
- Just do lots of extra work on your own, and stay up to date with everything. Make sure you read and do some research on your topics. Write up your own notes-using textbooks, class notes and research- and learn them before the exams.
- Manage your time- don't just study all the time, but also do some things you enjoy!
- http://www.duxcollege.com.au/hsc-scaling-i-49.html this site talks about scaling and should clear things up
- http://www.uac.edu.au/documents/atar/All-About-Your-ATAR.pdf this provides some really good, detailed info about the HSC and your ATAR

Good luck, and hope I've helped :)
