all lies, do not listen to these people they want you to fail. the SC means EVERYTHING
Yes, I'm sure a student community forum aimed at assisting students through the stressful period of their schooling life will want to deliberately give bad advice to someone and want to make them fail.

let them be. year 10 SC is like the biggest set of exams these kids have ever done. yes, they are pointless but let them learn that. i remember how frustrated i got when people told me to 'not try' in 08'. yes, they will all grow up and realise that its pointless, but it is one of those things that people need to do themselves so stop taking their thunder away prelim and hsc people!

Why do i have to do that? Im trying to give them a year theyll remember with joy and not regret. There is no point in them learning the hard way. Its just a waste.

whatever. im not telling them to work their arses off but the kids on this site are the 'smarter' ones anyway, the ones who wanna go well.

your tone comes across as 'don't try kids' and its annoying for them. they all know and have been told from:
a)yr eleveners
b)yr twelvers
c)teachers
d)older siblings
that the school certificate is a joke so they are well aware of it. and even if they ask questions like "does the SC really matter?", they all know and expect the response "no". they only ask coz this is the biggest exam of their lives (at their time) and they want to raise the topic so people talk about it.

so you know what, if it makes you feel better by telling them to 'not care' and what not, so be it. coz i totally understand you however, im merely saying i found people like you frustrating when i did it.

noone really puts that much effort in anyway even if they believe they are.

But by going well it gives a moral boost. I knew very well that the SC meant pretty much nothing, but I still studied for it. I didn't study excessively so as to take away from my social life, but I wanted to go good so I could feel good. Because of this, I'm very happy with what I got.

I agree just chill and enjoy it is as much as possible.

My only advice is to keep up with mathematics so at the end of year 10 you have the option to ext1 maths if you please.

That's true, falling behind in Maths is not something that you want to do.

+5.

STICKY THREAD.

i honestly did not study for the SC (i even created a thread ahahaha) and i managed great marks.

but now no one even mentions the SC and no one cares, so marks don't really matter.

nothing in year ten is used in year eleven.

HAVE FUN 12ers.

Totally agree with this thread. SC is utterly pointless; you will look back and regret any study. Just cruise through on talent and barely any workload.

+ whatever.

The SC is beyond a joke but it serves one useful purpose: dress rehearsal for the real thing. So you show up, do your best and ignore your results (or use them as motivation, whatever takes your fancy). I would advise any year 10 kids to REALLY NOT do what I did and get all stressed out about it (eg I was about an inch away from a nervous breakdown when I got an 85 in my maths SC trial :S) despite being told by everyone under the sun that it didn't matter.

But I agree with whoever said to keep up with the work in year 10 because it'd be a bitch to try to catch up on foundational mathematics, for example, during year 11.

The SC was a sort of anti-climax for me. I mean, we spent the entire year with teachers shoving past papers down our throats and being told it is the be all and end all of junior schooling. And then we had trials, which were great and I got great marks.

But that was it. After trials I lost all motivation and couldn't really be bothered studying for the actual SC. Plus, I was really sick of having exams for hours, five days a week and then being forced to stay there, even after finishing my exam. That really sucked.
