Well it should be admitted that we have a partly-cloudy history. We lack a moral foundation and fundamental belief in ourselves as a distinct people and place, with a clear purpose in the world etc.
However these are subtleties. Reclamation! Joy before the angels of God! The point is that it works

Huh? Perth and Brisbane are brilliant cities to live in.
If you could pick up Melbourne and drop it on top of Sydney, that would be good though.

I guess as long as China continues to fund the mining boom this country will be living it up.

The question is though what happens after?

This country will no longer be able fund so many welfare programs for the people.

Hopefully somebody realises this soon.

Welfare programmes aren't really funded by the developed world's mining boom - they existed before it, and they'll exist after it. Unlike America, we've had an entrenched welfare system in some form for at least a century. We've had more time to iron out the kinks, and there's far more public support for it, because Australia is a largely egalitarian society.

Mining drives growth but it isn't the backbone of the economy. Agriculture and natural resources account for 3% and 5% of GDP respectively.

But anyway, remember that after China, you've got India, Latin America, Africa, and South-East Asia. There will be plenty of need for our stuff for a long time to come.

We're ok. Probably not the best.
Maybe tied first when we become a republic.
