Re: How did people go in the maths comp today?

I was tossing up between 2n and 2^n but went with 2n instead.

Re: Australian Mathematics Competition

I reckon more like 70-80 for yr 12 and 60-70 for yr 11. I reckon the Senior Division was harder than past Senior Divisions
What's a prize? (i'm not saying i'll get one.)

You all sound like you went heaps better than me. I found it pretty cruisy until question 13 and then it was all down hill from there.

Re: How did people go in the maths comp today?

I could only put down answers for Q1-7, 9,11,12,16,17 and 20. Read you guys' posts make me feel inadequate..

I got to take my paper home, so I can scan sections if you guys want, if its legal (but i suppose it isnt)

my (probably wrong) answers for q1-10 were
E,E,D,D,A,E,B,B,E,A

Re: How did people go in the maths comp today?

It was like: Let f(x) = (x+6)/x and fn(x) = f(f(...
I decided the answer was two solutions. I'm fairly confident with that one, unlike most of the others after Q10.

The parallelogram fitting snugly around the 6 circles intrigued me (my way of covering up that it pissed me off really badly). I was fairly certain I had the exact answer until I looked at the choices. I mean, wtf, I expected 54(2+sqrt(3)). If anyone could walk me through that one, I'd appreciate it.

Re: How did people go in the maths comp today?

lol the map question
my friend actually folded paper for that one
hahaha, did the same thing!!

Overall, thought the first dozen or so weren't too bad, then skipped a couple of the middle ones (16 and 19, guessed at the end). Got the traitors-loyalists one and I'm pretty sure one more from 21-25. Hopefully got the first 10 and get 7 at least of the middle 10, would be happy with that.

Good fun though :D

Did anyone get the last one?

Re: 2009 AMT Mathematics Competition

The Westpac comp yeh?

Yeh, I did the Senior Divison and I found that it was really difficult compared to past senior papers.

I'm confident I got 26 and 27 correct.
Did you get 42 for q26?
