Other than going through UNSW to do the aviation course what other ways are there? Any recommendations?

okay you go to a flight school
get a cpl with a few endo's
you'll have about 250TT by then..
then you go and buy 'the australian' newspaper on friday
which will have all the jobs for pilots under the aviation section
look for single engine vfr operation jobs and call the guy/gal/s up
move out into the outback and for 2 years and a bit you'll be
flying in cessena 152-182 and cleaning the hangar etc..
and then you'll eventually get a promo to multi-engines
and you need about 500 hours of that which by then
you'll probably have about 2000TT..you should be about 22/23/24
and you apply to Qantas as a DEFO..
get command by 35..and you'll be one of the youngest captains
looking at making it into the top 10 for seniority..

the bush flying part could take anywhere between 3-7years depending
on your employer and how fast you are promoted to multi..
single engine vfr hours mean crap to qantas..the only thing they look at
is multi and believe me i would know because i did work experience there and helped them sort through applicants

i dont think so =]

i just got my declaration form and had to sign and fax it through to qantas
and then my supervisor there gave it to main security who gave me a pass on the first day..and later an airside pass..

all i had to do was get off the 500 qantas shuttle bus and show my pass to security :)

if they did have no work experience policy..im not so sure how i got pass security

they do however have a strict clothing attire policy..business attire only

on the pass it said my name blah blah..that i was work experience..and i was there for 5 days..and a yellow sticker for this airside pass thing which i had to show to another set of security
on the other side
"this card is issued in accordance with the department of transport, air transport group, air navifgation order 99.0 The older of this card is required to wear it firmly etc etc etc..and all this other stuff"

and where does it say that qantas has a strict no work experience policy ?

ps: i went to qantas group flight training if that makes any difference

i already had sim time before i went to qantas..so it wasnt anything new
but there was emergency procedures..thats likewhat cabin crew do every 6months or something to maintain their skill during emergencies..anyayso i gotta go do lots of things in that..they've got pictures of it on qantas site..
i joined up with a flight instructor and had a helluva day with him..went airside and went into the 744 tour, engineering tour, and i gotta a really nice view of an engine on a a330-200 << like really really close up..i was practically sitting on it..also we walked underneath (close to it) a taxiing british airway's aircraft..and got a qantas museum tour that isnt open to the public :D
plus..i really liked the reflective jacket thing i wore with the white helmet and ear plugs..looked really cool ahahaha
