Awkward tutoring situation PT. 2 (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone
this is part 2 of the "awkward tutoring situation" thread.

So, just to intro:
Maths tutor is Chris.
Phys/chem tutor is Ben
ENGLISH Adv tutor is Andrew.
Although, i said i was going to leave my maths tutor, I've decided not to cuz i got my trials results back and surprisingly did well.
And Ben is still going great.

However, i have received my English Adv trial results back, where i failed in certain modules.
I had a lesson with both Ben and Andrew since the english results have been returned.
Ben is an allrounder and 99.95 Ruse ex-student. So he did well in everything.
Andrew received almost full marks in extension 2 english and ext 1 eng and an ex-baulko student, also 99.95.
I seeked advice from both of them and i think that Ben's advice was better than Andrews.

However, I don't know whether i should leave Andrew and go to Ben for english.
Is it too much to be relying on phys/chem AND english all on Ben? And also, Andrew has also improved me quite alot since the beginning of yr12. I was ranked last place and now i am average ranked for English.
Is it too late to be changing now?
I don't know what to do now. like was it my own fault for failing in those modules. so much to consider and like once i leave Andrew, its kind of awkward to go back once you leave haha...

out of all my tutors, Ben is literally the best. I would actually consider moving maths ext, AND eng to Ben. but i feel like that might be too much pressure for him maybe? or is that okay? plus, would that be safe to be relying 100% of all my subjects on one tutor...? I still think that Ben > Chris.
But im not sure if i should stay or go, since the trials results were good.


help pls.

TL: DR- Should i leave two of my tutors and purely rely on one tutor to manage me for maths ext, phys, chem and eng adv?

Ask the tutor if he has the time to do it. If so.. then just rely on him.

Tutors are there to help people.

In a way, it maybe partly your fault ... Tutors are there to help you and their ability and expertise can be challenged. You can ask Ben but let me ask you this! Did you study hard for English or even prepared for it? Your tutor and you are a team: 50/50 if either one doesn't put in effort then really who is to blame Andrew or you.

That's my opinion, but it's solely up to you just question for thought

If Ben accepts changing to him, then change to him. But you shouldn't think whatever tutors you have are responsible for your marks. Tutors are mainly there to assist with your learning, and in the end you should be the one building this. You seem to be, how can I say this, topsy turvy in terms of your tutors. You say Andrew has helped you over the long run however due to one batch of results and Ben being better in advice one time, you have considered changing tutors. Maybe think about it more.

Onus is on you not to fail. You can have all the tutoring in the world with the best students but if you're not passing it's because you're not doing enough work. Put in the work first and the results will come.

I completely agree. The reason I said 95+ is that is the ops atar goal

In regards with your tutoring situation, firstly confirm whether Ben can really teach English. Even if he got 99.95, he may prefer Phys/chem, have more experience teaching phys/chem and thus be a much better phys/chem teacher than English. Andrew on the other hand, seems like he might have more experience and be more specialised in English, so you wouldn't change before your sure Ben will help you more. Considering Andrew would be more familiar with all your essays/creatives, I think that it may be too late to change.

But most importantly, you need to think about how much your failure was your own fault and how much it was the tutors fault. Did you fail because you weren't familiar enough with your text? because you forgot quotes? your ideas weren't complex enough?
Did your tutor give you ideas that weren't complex enough? not give you good feedback? not understand what the marker wants?
Or is it that you can't think under exam pressure? Can't adapt your essays?

Either way, your tutor is there to guide your studies, not to do the work for you.

Find out where you lost your marks, and work on it with whichever tutor you end up choosing

False. There is a difference between being good at a subject and being good at teaching a subject.
