Hey,

Recently I've been looking at different degrees and Actuarial Studies caught my eye. I've heard it's difficult but can be a promising career. In terms of Double Degrees, it looks like Macquarie offers it with Applied Finance or Bachelor of Science.

I was wondering what exactly Bachelor of Science Majors are worth; they seem to be very generic (i.e. Senior Science vs Chem, Bio, Phys). I feel like Bachelor of Science degrees are just to get your foot in the door.

TL:DR - What's a Bachelor of Science Degree? Is it worth getting one over an Applied Finance degree?

Thanks,

If you major in something relevant such as Statistics then it may be well worth getting it over the applied finance degree.

Would also depend on the field(s?) that you may well be aiming for, and your current skillset/ability.

Yea, was just looking to get into either the finance field (financial adviser of sorts) if actuarial studies is too hard.

imho, finance goes better with actuarial compared with science (i mean how is phy, chem and bio gonna help u in determining the insurance of a death etc). But if u dont know what u ll be doing actl or not, then i guess science is good as it opens a lot of options whereas finance is constricted.

Hi!

I just finished my first year of the applied finance combined.

AFAIK the science combined is actually a degree in Science (statistics) so what you are actually doing is a stats degree.

Hope this helps. (also let me know if you have any more questions)

Why did you choose applied finance?
