That's ridiculous, a third of the test IS comprehension. I'd say your teacher is trolling you.
No. She is a marker. Markers are briefed by the SOM. The SOM made it clear that both supp texts will get equal consideration, and hence why the markers are taking the question as though it said "at least ONE.."

omgs...started again. Give it a break..seriously. Those that wrote LESS of one will still end up doing better than those who wrote 2. You can continue to 'satisfy yourself' by making these threads lol .
Hrmm. So please explain how an "equal" consideration of both supp texts, can work to disadvantage the people that did 2 supp texts. It ends up being a normal essay for section III - and they are more than capable of getting a 15 for "insight" than someone that did one - they would've obviously explored more ideas.

They will not be marked normally. They will not be penalised. But they will not consider 2. That is like me writing 15 related and they consider my best ones. You are wrong. Dont make up lies.

An english teacher in my year, is the person who has briefed the teachers for some years now, he is the master in charge of all englishes at my school...and he said they will cross off your weakest/crappest one. And reread the essay with out it, noting that considering you wrote 2, your other one will be smaller and shitter compared to everyone else who wrote one, thus will take off more marks.

Simple.

If you actually got "disadvantaged" by the opportunity to write a more in depth response, your just an idiot and you got owned. hah.

Thats funny. My teacher actually marked papers last night and was told to give equal consideration to both supp texts. And regardless - they should be penalised. They should lose marks. It is English - READ THE QUESTION. It is like setting no question at all and asking us to write whatever we want about belonging.

''The HSC is not a memorising test,'' he said. ''The HSC is about applying knowledge.''

He said exam preparation had become increasingly narrow, which ''may be a danger when students don't get the question they expect''.

In the studies of religion paper, students had expected section three to follow the same formula as previous years. And in the English paper, students were asked to refer to one additional text instead of two, as was the case last year.

St Ignatius' College student Adam Smallhorn, 18, said the English paper appeared to ''nut out the students who prepare their answers in advance and vomit them out in the exam''.

''The Board of Studies should have put out a memo about the studies of religion paper to say it would be more encompassing,'' he said. ''I'm glad they did it, though. The brighter students can think on their feet and adapt.

''I think it is abhorrent for kids to go to coaching colleges and not read the texts and vomit out essays without having to think.''

Thursday's studies of religion exam was delayed by 10 minutes at Abbotsleigh School for Girls in Wahroonga while exam supervisors called the Board of Studies after students raised concerns.

This year's questions made no reference to previously familiar concepts such as ethical codes and practices and significant people associated with different religions.

Mr Alegounarias said the board took all complaints seriously but defended its right to deviate from previous exam formats.

''If there is a systematic problem that goes to the syllabus that is [a valid complaint],'' he said.

''But I have been given every assurance that isn't the case. The structure of the question was not what students expected.''

Abbotsleigh headmistress Judith Poole said the question was worded differently to exams in the previous two years. ''Examiners tried something a little different,'' she said. ''Question three was tricky.''

St Ignatius' College headmaster Shane Hogan said: ''Like a number of other Catholic schools, we are extremely disappointed with the studies of religion papers. The questions were worded in such a way that students were not able to express their full knowledge on topics. If the examiners are going to change their emphasis, teachers should be made aware.''

lol ' insight'..No. When it specified ONE, it meant ONE and not 'atleast one'. Markers are certainly not going to take the question as 'atleast one ' cause that is the most ridiculous thing iv ever heard .

"It ends up being a normal essay for section III ". Again..no. They expected you to write a LOT on ONE supp text and if you wrote two...that would mean you surely did not write ' a lot '. In chem if they ask u to talk about ONE radioisotope ..question worth 4 marks...and you end up writing 2 of em....will they take both into consideration? No. They take one. This is how it is normally and this is how it should be ...but you never know with these english teachers..

Makes me mad that so many people are having a cry because they didn't read the question. It was in BOLD CAPS people. Pretty hard to miss IMO.

I think he's trying to show the BOS hypocrisy. That they say students should think on their feet in an exam, such as SOR and not really on regurgitated essays. Yet for English they apparently allow exceptions and disregard the question wording.

Fuck it, I'm going to watch some porn.

no. what da article is saying is that the fact they have made the question different is to change and create an exam that prevents memorisation. although the religion paper is of most importance in this article it began with reference to also the English paper, board of studies is trying to challenge us which is needed, to differentiate students, this is the first year were students are comming out of an examination sayin the trials were easier. The aos paper had many elements to it that created a distinction from past papers, section 2 was so specific in its question and section 3 asked us to be specific thorough reference to one text.

2008 paper aos said two texts, i dought they allowed those who had 3 text to get away with it, this year they went as far as saying one text, this english yr 12 a ear before uni, you need to listen and understand instructions and work accordingly.
