Of all the books I read this year I really enjoyed Orwell's 1984, Joesph Heller's Catch-22 and Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent...1984 was probably the best.

Anyone else?

Read quite a few books this year. A few were extraordinarily remarkable; including: 'Elsewhere' by Gabrielle Zevin and 'The Book Thief' by Markus Zusack.

George Orwell - 1984 was a great one =D
Agreed. However, I find it amazing how so many people can miss Orwell's message.

Orwell wasnt afraid of communism (he was a democratic socialist), Orwell was afraid of totalitarian governments and the role of governments in society.

Skin Lane - Neil Bartlett. Blew my mind. A subtle gothic horror novel but absolutely masterful. Quite seriously the most amazing book I read all year.

I'm currently reading a very short novel called "The Tree", written by Judy Pascoe. It's short, sweet and utterly simple; there's a nice little message in there though.

Nineteen-Eighty Four is an awesome book! Yeaaaaah!

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time though would be my pick for 2011

Nietzsche is amazing. He's a freak of nature and I think some of his ideas are wonderful - kind of like Freud of the philosophical and literary world.

Just read this two page story.
Despite reading words that I haven't encountered in almost a year now... I get the gist of it. And the gist of it is good, and rich, and filled with meaning. Intriguing, to say the least. All start, and no stop. Yet rich with imagery and description, as if each moment in the life is laid plain and analysed with a careful-- and I'll stop now =P
