Hi, I currently have a ECS P4S5A motherboard and I'm planning to get a new graphic card for games.. but the motherboard only has a 4x AGP slot .. so just wondering what would be the best graphic for such specs ..

Most agp cards are backwards compatible I think, so just go the best agp card overall.

Go up to $200 and purchase a 6600GT.

I would save up some cash for a new motherboard and Graphics. Especially if you want to play games you need at least a 6600 which is aroun $160 but depending on your CPU and RAM it really may just lead you to a severe bottleneck.

i know that money is an issue with you, but it would be a waste to upgrade the card , if you can only have agp 4x. maybe get a quick job and earn for 2 weeks. u can eaily get 200-300 dollars for 2 weeks of work and then buy a motherboard and a graphics card.

From experience, they're not. If you ever put an 8x in a 4x slot, your motherboard will overheat.

But you will get to see a nice light show while youe computer burns.
I thought it was 4x and 2x that had different voltages, whilst 8x to 4x was fine.

8x to 4x is fine. It's AGP 8x to 2x or 1x that blows up your computer. Buy a 6600 or 6600 GT, and you shouldn'y have any dramas. Alternatively, you can go for an X700 or X600 (if you can find them in AGP).

Maybe you should post your specs so that we can reccomend a card that will not be bottlenecked by the restr of the system. I'm thinking a second hand 9550/9600/9800 will do nicely for an awesome price. Trust me, its a HUGE jump from the GF4mx 440 (which is actually just a Geforce 2 MX chip with upgraded memory). That said, even a lacklustre fx is a decent jump up.

Ps What games are you hoping to run?

Like people have said, 8x to 4x is fine. As for your mobo, chances are if you're still on 4x AGP, your CPU, RAM amount might be low. In that case, no point getting a shiny new X850XT-PE etc.

6600GTs might be more suitable.

The 6600GT's, oh how i wish i could purchase thee, unfortunately my funds are going to saving up for a new system dedicated to media processing (perhaps a mac)

My PC specs are:
P4 1.6Ghz
512Mb DDR333
80Gb Hard Drive
ECS P4S5A motherboard (http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Produc...&LanID=0&DetailID=39&DetailName=Specification)

So yeah, I'm getting a new PC sometimes next year anywayz, just in the holidayz, I've decided to play some games, well, I don't know what kinda games I mite wanna play, since I never play games... I remember the only game dat I really played was V8 Challenge (4 years ago), which was really fun since it had stats haha and I got my ranking to 20th and team to 1st.

So is everyone suggesting a 6600? .. do yous mean the basic 6600 model or the special edition ones?? ..

Also, what about the model dat is under the 6600??

if your hoping to play games like quake 4 and farcry on resolutions like 1280x1024 you might be in for a bit of trouble ... even with 1024x768 you'd have to turn ALOT of details down.

the 6600's go in 6600LE, 6600 and then the 6600 gt ? (someone correct me if i'm wrong ?)

6600gt's are alright cards on a budget, however i'd prefer to upgrade the comp in one big go as you'd definately be cpu/ram limited. But since your on a budget, i'd go for a 6600gt (they arent too expensive and theres a difference from a 6600 vs a gt). If your strapped for cash, second hand 6600gt's can be had for about $160 - $180 on the for sale section at http://forums.overclockers.com.au

Enjoy.

back to some quake 4, luv this new cpu and 6800gt

HL2 should run great, and in COD2, there's a setting to run it with DirectX7 which will help lots (will even be able to crank it to full ;p)
