Since there's now a thread for 'best trilogy' in the reading room, it seems a bit odd not to one for movies. I'll make a poll, but I suspect 10 spaces won't be enough for some of the more obscure ones people might have seen.

We really need more options, I can think of quite a few more as I was posting the poll.. mainly teen trilogies like Scream or American Pie though.

It had to be star wars. The last lord of the rings movie lags. And sequels of the matrix, mainly revolutions, was a let down.

I've not seen the good the bad and the ugly though it is supposed to the best of the man with no name series.

And of course Indianna Jones is great, I lamost chose that over star wars.

So it's the best trilogy of films that you've seen because one of them "should be good"?

I voted for Red White Blue - 3 colours trilogy.

I think a trilogy shouldn't just be an extended storyline. Otherwise you may as well make a 10 hour movie with interludes. There has to be meaning behind the trilogy. Something to make each part different and unique, but something to tie it together. In 3 colours, you had the three colours, one flag, three women, one problem, three towns/cities, one country, fraternity/equality/liberty, one set of beliefs.

Having said that, I think the Godfather was an excellent trilogy.

For me it's a toss up between Back to the Future and Star Wars. I think they're both equally good, though Back to the Future loses some points for the last installment (don't really like westerns) and A New Hope suffered from a bit of a slow start.

The Lord of the Rings easily, in terms of scope, and then the Godfather because it's just so well done

Wow, as many voted for Three Colours as there are for The Godfather, that's incredible. Even more incredible is that 2 people voted for Three Colours and no one's voted for Man Without a Name trilogy yet, which is far less obscure. Have westerns gone down that far in popular esteem?

For the record, I chose The Godfather just barely over Three Colours, they're both brilliant.
