although i agree that facebook is fine; especially if you are both moderate to heavy users in this day and age; i really dont think a status update or on their wall would be appropriate for this; and it would be somewhat disrespectful. ie if youre going to do it on facebook or myspace a private message would be the way to do it out of respect for the other person so others dont see it first and they hear it through the grape vine.
