I think talking about it with others is actually more helpful.

This is true, it sticks in you're head much better and you actually learn the information instead of just having memorised words in your head for a couple of days or so.

- make a small poem about it
- make up a story with the keywords in it. i did this to remember the quotes in a robert gray poem i did in english today.. it said "the youth of the restaurant said that the butchers and gypsys eat oats that shrivel"... u could can see which words are key words and they trigger my memory.. You should try it!!
- acrostic poems'

ahahah i have so many little ways.. .but so good!

I find that talking about it with others is really helpful - e.g: we spent a few minutes in chem devising random method for remembering polyatomic ions...acetate = chicken 3 coop.

Also acoustic poems etc helps.

Write a memmenoic.
Keep praciticsing several times, rewriting it over and over. Make it fun, i.e. make a test and have several students (you) complete it and then grade it.

Lol I sound crazy....

acronyms!
they are so helpful. for example.. the process of mitosis: IP-MAT.

and if the acronym is like GSAUGBS
Make a sentence out of it.
Like. Gabe saw a unicorn go by skipping.
or something like that.

Write all your notes, or whatever stuff you are learning - as though you are explaining it to a 10 year old.

It is a little tedious, but it works so well for me, especially in terms of understanding what it is you are learning.

(I explained almost the entire "Quanta to Quarks" chapter to my youngest sister (7).)

Another thing to do is to talk about it with other students. Once you understand something and its implications you're much more likely to remember it. Basically, the more deeply you process something the more you will remember later. There's still something to be said for rote learning though.
