Analyse information from secondary sources to discuss the diverse
environments that living things occupy today and use available
evidence to describe possible alternative environments in which life may
have originated

I don't understand what they mean by "alternative environment". Do I have to present an environment that is different from Haldane and Oparins' hypothesis or what?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think so.
For example, Ocean surfaces, Panspermia and Thermal Vents.

i asked my teacher and this was thier response

panspermia theory so vaccum environments, volcanic theory, & hydrothermal seavents. You figure it out.

so i went from that

isnt that preliminary .. :uhoh: maybe im just confused ..

well when i done that it was like mainly based on the cyanobacteria and where they could have started off like in the extremes .

ie thermavents, antarctica:cold: , etc ..

our teacher emphasized mainly on cyanobacteria..
dont know if thats right though ..

maybe my teachers just weird .. but just letting you know what i know ..

sharing the smartness :D

Thanks for the inputs. For this dot-point, I just said that the environment when the first life would have begun was anoxic however the advent of the cyanobacteria increased the amount of oxygen available and reduced the carbon dioxide. Due to the change in oxygen level, more life forms that were aerobic appeared and so on....(Continues like 5 more lines)

BUT...what I said above is basically the theory of Haldane and Oparin anyway.

I said that but that's the theory of Haldane and Oparin anyway. They were suggesting that there were organic molecules available on Earth to start the life on Earth. Damn, I will just go for the theory I started off with.

EDIT: Just checked on internet on Panspermia Theory. I can do what I started off with (i.e. cyanobacteria & anoxic - oxic environment)

Double EDIT: It would be really nice if someone could post his/her notes on this dot-point. Thanks!!!

Thanks in advance.
I think alternate means you have to provide several theories of how the chemicals of life on earth might have originated.

I need help with this dot-point. What would be the disadvantages of having five-kingdom system?

Is it because it does not account for the differences between eubacteria and archaeobacteria?

Or is it because the system is too complicated? (stupid disadvantage)

But I would still need help with the dot-point:

Analyse information from secondary sources to discuss the diverse
environments that living things occupy today and use available
evidence to describe possible alternative environments in which life may
have originated

If you have notes, please don't hesistate to post it up. Thanks!!!

the five kingdom system of classification leads to difficulties in classifying organisms. fungi are a problem for taxonomists. they don't know if it should be placed as a plant or protist or in a separate group themselves. depending on the criteria used algae may be classified as a protist or a plant. lichens consist of fungi and algae. taxonomists don't know whicg kingdom they come under. inspite of such a complicated classification some organisms such as viruses and prions still remain out of these classification schemes.

i think - u would have to refer to the divergent evolution ( organisms with common ancestors but occupy different habitats which in turn is supported by darwin's theory of natural selection.

In the five-kingdom system of classification, fungi placed in a separate kingdom called fungi. Therefore having fungi does not present a problem. In my opinion, the minor issue of having five-kingdom system of classification is that it does not account for the differences and exceptions that protista kingdom presents.

On top of that, it does not place viruses into a relevant kingdom due to the difficulties of placing viruses in a kingdom.

Nah, that won't work. It's not related to the evolution of animals. It's rather related to the evolution of the molecules and the origin of life.

LOL. just take out 2 or 3 =/ such as the The Deep Sea Vent Theory or Clay theory
and page 110 of your heinemann text talks about Panspermia

I would copy my section on the notes but I'm not up to it yet x). Give us an hour or so.
