Well, their actual roles basically encompass the organisation and management of certain aspects of hive clusters.
That aside, they have the ability to lob larvae-projectiles into organic hosts, in which the incubants consume the host's body for nutrients and emerge as twin Broodling units. They also have the ability to spew out somewhat toxic green globs, in which they slow down opposing units in combat.
They also have the ability to infest heavily damaged Terran Command Centers.

i love starcraft so much ive never played it before. watch out for my cerebrate though. they go beyong the constraints of laptops..............
