Please note that due to a number of people pulling out last minute, anyone who has done Mathematics Extension 2 is also able to participate in Mathematics Extension 1 (especially those previously on reserve list).

Will start inviting Mathematics Extension 1 students into the forums shortly.

Forgot to mention to the Mathematics Extension 1 participants to please ensure you are ready to go at least 10 minutes before the exam starts at 3pm.

Just a reminder that the BoS Trials are meant to be challenging. This is the place if you want to get exposure to good/challenging questions that may come up in the HSC, rather than the same generic stuff from a lot of other papers.

I refer to the paragraphs from the original post:
These are aimed at students seeking a challenging paper that will push their limits and test how well they really know their stuff. The exams have been designed by our team maintaining a high standard of challenging questions, whilst still remaining within the bounds of the HSC syllabus.

They will interest you, challenge you and show you different ways of thinking for certain topics (which will be very handy for the actual HSC exam!). Students who have taken these trial exams in previous years can attest to this.

Note: Students who may be worried about losing motivation (due to results) are reminded that this is NOT intended to be an accurate reflection of the difficulty of the HSC. The questions are made to be as closely styled as possible to the HSC exams (see previous papers), but this will be one of your last chances to practice a full exam as close to HSC conditions as possible.

Thanks to all those that participated in today's Maths BoS trial exams! Hope it was a sufficiently challenging and stimulating experience. ✍

Given it was the first time this was conducted online, we hope there weren't too many teething issues!

Big thanks to those who helped contribute to writing the paper (Paradoxica, sharky564 to name a few) and also to brent012 who contributed to creating the online set up.

We will begin the process of solution writing and marking the papers and will aim to get them out in due course before your HSC Maths exam days. We would appreciate your patience as this will take time to get through and write up. If you want any hints/guides/answers to specific questions right now, feel free to post it on this thread.

...and now please find the papers attached! There may be some typos, so feel free to call them out for us to consider.

We would also like to hear your feedback. Were there any questions you particularly liked/hated or curious to know how to solve? 🤔

Thanks to everyone who did the Chemistry BoS Trial! Hope you found the online format workable and the paper useful and challenging! 💻

Massive thanks to CM_Tutor for writing this paper and jazz519 for supporting (especially during a busy honours year). Again, massive thanks to brent012 who played a key role in getting the online set up. :)

Please find the paper attached. Feel free to call out any typos for us to consider or just general feedback.

Just like with Maths, we will be marking the papers and putting solutions together. We will aim to get them out in due course before your HSC Chemistry exam. We would appreciate your patience as this will take time to get through and write up. In the meantime, if you want any hints/guides/answers to specific questions right now, feel free to post it on this thread.

Once again everyone is reminded that BoS trial papers are meant to be very challenging so that you have exposure to many potential harder HSC questions all at once (even better if it is under exam conditions). So please don't be too de-motivated if you had a lot of difficulties in doing them, they should serve as a useful study tool to get you outside your comfort zone.

The 4u paper was kinda nuts. Enjoyed doing it just for fun. How do you guys write up these questions…
The grind never stops. (We have the drafting process running in the background behind our lives and all question ideas we come up with are thrown into the basket, which gives us a lot to work with in the months leading up to the exam)

Thanks to everyone who participated and for your patience!

Here are the solutions and student results for the 2021 Mathematics Extension 2 BoS trials. Thanks to CM_Tutor and Paradoxica for helping with solutions and marking!

A reminder that whilst the questions are made to be as closely styled to the HSC exams as possible, this is NOT intended to be an accurate reflection of the difficulty of the HSC exam. Please don't get too hung up on the mark you got. The whole point of the trial exam is to give you good practice in exercising your problem solving skills in preparation for those nasty harder questions in the HSC.

Please note that the question paper has also been updated (in the same post I originally posted it) to include further minor edits to wordings, typos and a recalibrated mark allocation. If you find any typos in the solutions, please flag that for our consideration.

Also, I have posted in the forum where the exams were submitted the marked papers for each candidate. I made comments and highlighted issues as I marked questions 11 and 12, which should be of interest to each student.

Just to clarify since I didn't get confused at all, that's the table for extension 2 again?
Yes, I've edited the post to note it is MX2.

I think it is interesting that, for example, one candidate provided responses to 59 marks worth of questions but scored 54 marks, so was earning over 90% on what was attempted.

I also think it is interesting that the most anyone attempted was 84 marks worth, so no result above 84 / 100 was possible.
