My teacher phoned me up to say I was short-listed yesterday, which I think is a riot because what I've done is practically anti-art. I can't draw, paint, sculpt or actually create something with talent so I came up with this abomination.
I took a 2mx2m square of fresh, unstretched canvas to the city, and left it on a pavement. It is in all simplicity, representative of traditional art. Some people walked on it. A lot avoided it. Very few stopped and wondered at it. Voila - an analogy!
After filming that in different places I 'found' myself a train seat (via semi-legal means, I swear ahah) and upholstered it with the trodden canvas. Stuck a few spraypainted paradoxes on it and then left that in public. People did their thing, and I was there to film it. The seat is a public object, belonging to no-one. The main thrust behind it all is that I did not create the artwork - the audience did. They chose to interact with it (step on/abuse/laugh/sit on/kick it), and all I did was document it. Public art, really.

The film is presented with david attenborough-esque voiceover, talking about the art as an animal trying to survive in our post-modern age of cities and public transport. Ideally, it is projected on the set-up below.

Thanks for the comments guys! All 6 of them are slightly bigger than A4. There's also about 10 smaller pictures too, which I did as 15 minute "snapshots" (aka I was running outta time and ideas.) I'll post more later, as I'm not using my laptop right now. XD Oh, and the title of my whole BOW is "Home is where the art is". Hooray for lame puns!

i know i put up the main part of my work before.. but i didn't put up my painting.. because i didn't have a good pic.. but i found a half decent one.. so i thought I'd add that.. as well as a photo of a sculpture i made and an image of a cockroach that i included before.. but you couldn't see very well ^_^.. the pic of the painting isn't greatest... the light from the flash was reflected.. and it muted most of the colours.. >_<

the rest of my work is on the page before this one

Holy crap! Those are awesome! I like the fact that you chose roaches. I hate them, but their forms are spiky and cool.

Oh hey Thadeeeeee I live in Ersko too!

I went to Emmaus though, which is particularly crappola. Your art department rocks... I don't think I saw your works at Arts in the Park though? Or maybe I saw one of them.

Really like James Mc's, Ben W's, and the one that did large paintings of small children with some Twombly-esque boats.

Your class will definately get some nominations!

Awesome! Hehehe, I hid mine because they weren't finished yet. I ended up only displaying one or two and my "escher study" at Arts in the Park. :rofl: James' work is so awesome. And Ben's. Bee (who made the boats + kids) is definitely gonna make it into Art Express. She's awesome!

Did Emmaus have an Exhibition? I like seeing the HSC stuff from other schools but I couldn't go this year because I did a lot of my stuff in the last few weeks.
