A bull that pined for its owner has been led away from his grave after a vigil lasting a number of days.

Barnaby the bull left his field in the German town of Roedental and found his way to the cemetery where owner Alfred Gruenemeyer was buried.
The eccentric farmer is said to have treated his animals likes pets, allowing several to have the run of his home.

The bull found his way one mile to cemetery and then jumped a wall before locating his owner's grave. He stayed there for two days despite numerous efforts to coax him away.

Vets said it was common for dogs to pine for their lost owners, but they had never heard of a bull doing so.

"It shows an acute level of intelligence. It seems incredible that a bull could find the exact spot where his master was buried, but he did it," said Klaus Mueller.

btw, I didn't post this in "light and offbeat news" because I don't think it is "light news". Don't stories like this make you question if we should really be slaughtering animals like cows?

Quite impressive, how exactly that worked is unknown to me.

Also, this definitely belongs to Light and Offbeat. You've just copied and pasted a news article, and have not made any coherent point against modern agriculture. Backseat moderation - ahoy!

well if cows are sentient-beings possessing intelligence and capable of such close emotional bonds with humans, shouldn't we be seriously questioning the practice of killing and eating them?

What makes you think for a second that cows are possess sentience and self awareness? This article sure as hell does not support whatever argument you are trying to make.

On the assumption that the cow possesses the ability to detect its owner's corpse via smell, and associated the owner with that particular odour, what marks that as particularly special? Invertebrates are capable of just as much, and I have yet to see anyone get in arms about the horrendous practices of the brutal honey-nectar industrial-agri-capitalist-complex.

Thanks a freaking lot humanity's ability to anthropomorphise. Oh well, for every Shakespeare, you end up with a PETA.

"Cows enjoy solving problems, according to researchers" and this is from a BBC article mind you, its not jst someone's myspace site.

also, aren't PETA extremists who break into farms and things? I'm just pointing out the scientific evidence presented in news articles.
