Ex- school bus driver admits to child porn charges

A former bus driver for Red Hook schools and employee of an Elizaville overnight camp has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Albany to child pornography charges.

David Leach, 55, of Elizaville admitted that in April 2003 he posted numerous images of child pornography to a group or community of Microsoft Networks, according to Glenn T. Suddaby, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, and William D. Chase, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Division.

Leach worked as a bus driver for the Red Hook Central School District from 1990 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 2003, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Spina Jr. Leach also worked as a part-time driver and night watchman at Camp Scatico in Elizaville from 2001 to 2003, Spina said.

A person who answered a call to the camp but who refused to give his name said Leach had worked there "years ago" but said he had no other comment. Red Hook school authorities could not be reached for comment. Spina said Leach is currently unemployed.

Spina said a federal search warrant was executed at Leach's home on Oct. 31, 2003, and a computer and a number of computer discs were seized. Examination of the computer and discs found hundreds of images of minors, many of them prepubescent, engaged in sexually explicit conduct, Spina said.

Leach admitted he posted to MSN an "album" of photos entitled "Dave's Collection," which contained images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, Spina said. He also said Leach admitted he had been a member of several MSN and Yahoo e-groups and communities, had uploaded sexually explicit images of minors and child erotica to these sites, had joined "Lolita"-type web sites and had been collecting child pornography for two years.

Leach will be sentenced in June. Spina said he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Leach was released pending sentencing.

The case was investigated by the FBI's Cyber Predator Task Force and the New York state Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Bus driver taped slapping student loses job

The School Board fired a bus driver Tuesday night, ending his paid
suspension after he was accused of striking a special-needs student.

The driver, Stephen L. Pottorff, 44, Morgantown, was driving the special-needs bus Jan. 30 when a video surveillance camera caught him stopping the vehicle and slapping a 9-year-old boy. He was wearing a restraint and had been making noise.

The 5-0 vote by the Nineveh-Hensley-Jackson board came after a closed-door meeting in which members discussed the driver's status. Board members made no comment on the incident during the public session.

The bus was traveling on County Road 125 West, south of Ind. 252. The boy's 8-year-old sister, who was on the bus, told her parents about the incident.

The parents contacted the school. Superintendent John M. Reed, who has said he regrets the incident occurred, reported it to Johnson County sheriff's investigators Feb. 1, giving them the videotape. No charges were immediately filed.
Pottorff admitted the incident to school officials, a police report said.

Bus driver throws passenger into street

- A Philadelphia bus driver accused of assaulting a passenger and throwing her off the bus was arraigned Friday, police say.

Mario Edney, 53, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats, said Officer Jillian Russell, police spokeswoman.

Russell said Edney and the 52-year-old passenger got into an argument about not stopping at her stop and he allegedly threw her into traffic and drove off.

The victim was taken to Graduate Hospital where she was treated for a broken shoulder, Russell told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Bus driver jailed for rape

A 24-year-old bus driver has been jailed for six years for raping an 11-year-old girl and defiling two 13-year-old girls and a 14-year-old boy two years ago.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano found Wayne Zahra, of Cospicua, guilty of the rape and defilement of the minors after hearing how he had forced the 11-year-old (X) to have sex with him in his bus and in the presence of the other three minors.

The magistrate heard how, on February 15, 2004, the mother of one of the 13-year-olds (Y) filed a police report saying her daughter had sex with Mr Zahra.

Y had a 13-year-old female friend (Z) who was dating a 14-year-old boy (V). The boy was a friend of Mr Zahra and, as the girls were introduced to him, Y started fancying the driver.

When Mr Zahra invited the girls for a drive on his bus they accepted the invitation. While the girls were on the bus Mr Zahra exposed himself to Y. Although she initially refused, she eventually had sex with him.

The two had sex several times over the next few weeks. They had sex in the bus, during his breaks, and also in his Marsacala flat.

Z corroborated Y's version and admitted that she too had had sex with Mr Zahra several times in his bus. Then, in January, X (the 11-year-old girl) went onto the bus with the other three (Y, Z and V). Mr Zahra wanted to have sex with X and take her virginity but she did not want.

V told Mr Zahra to leave X alone but he ordered her to remove her trousers and, although she looked scared, she obeyed him.

Mr Zahra then pinned her against the seat so she could not leave and raped her. When he saw that she was bleeding he told her that his wish to take her virginity had come true. He told her not tell anyone about what had happened.

In a statement to the police, Mr Zahra admitted having sex with the girls in his bus but denied raping any of them. He said: "Many ships have sunk and airplanes crashed... I made a mistake... First they drive you crazy then they get you into trouble. I won't make the mistake again."

On handing down judgment, the magistrate noted that the fact that X and Z had consensual sex with Mr Zahra did not mean he was to be cleared of their defilement. As an adult he was bound not to take advantage of such situations.

Dr Quintano ended the judgment by quoting an extract from a judgment handed down 31 years ago: "The court would be failing in its duties if it did not take this opportunity to advise young people of both sexes and their parents to avoid the type of promiscuity that resulted in this case. This may lead to drugs and the country's ruin."

Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.

Sweden:Bus driver 'suspected of manslaughter'

The driver of a bus which crashed in central Sweden leaving nine people dead is suspected of criminal offences, prosecutors have said.

The 62-year old was questioned by police on Friday in Skövde hospital about the crash in Arboga. He was told that police suspected him of manslaughter, careless driving and causing injury.

“Several pieces of evidence have come to light that have led me to say that the driver is suspected of criminal offences. These are a combination of witness statements and forensic evidence,” said regional prosecutor Bengt Kylin to TT.

Kylin said that the precise cause of the accident is not yet clear, but the driver is suspected of contributing to the accident through carelessness. He refused to be drawn on whether the bus had been going too quickly.

Analysis of blood tests taken after the crash is not yet complete. Neither prosecutors nor police would reveal what the driver or passengers had said about the accident. The preliminary police investigation of the bus did not reveal any technical faults.

The Swedish Accident Investigation Board’s investigation into the accident is not expected to be complete until the end of the year at the earliest, and only then will it be known whether there was any technical reason for the bus to have veered off the road.

Questioning of all witnesses will be complete by the end of this week at the earliest. Many of these will be questioned over the phone.

Nine people were killed in the accident, which took place on 27th January on the E18/E20 highway to the south of Arboga. The bus was carrying around 50 people, most of whom were from the Skövde area. They were on their way to Stockholm to see a performance of hit musical Mamma Mia. Most of those injured in the accident have been discharged from hospital.

Bus driver guilty of seaside rape

A bus driver who forced a woman to read the Bible before raping her has been warned he is facing jail.

Cardiff Crown Court heard vicar's son Nicholas Vann, 37, made the woman read from the Old Testament before forcing her to submit to his sexual demands.

The trial heard he chatted up a passenger, 22, and later took her away to a seaside bed and breakfast.

Vann, from Machen, south Wales, had denied rape and assault but was found guilty. He was bailed for sentence.

Prosecutor Ieuan Morris said: "The pair went out for a meal but the evening soon turned sour. He forced himself upon her when they got back to the bed and breakfast.

"He grabbed her head, bent her over the bed and shouted: 'Read the Bible'. He had book-marked a page about women having to be submissive to men.

"He then forced the her to have sex with him. He was forceful and perverted."

The woman told Cardiff Crown Court how the weekend turned into a nightmare when he demanded perverted sex.

Bail

She said: "I tried to push him back to get him off me - but he was getting really excited by the challenge."

Vann, a father-of-four, is currently living at his parents' home.

He denied rape and causing actual bodily harm but was found guilty by a jury.

Vann had insisted the pair enjoyed consensual sex.

He told the trial: "I did nothing of the sort. I never forced myself on her.

"We did have sex but I never forced myself on her - I never made her do anything against her will."

Vann will be sentenced later this month and Judge Stephen Hopkins warned him: "Foremost in my mind is a custodial sentence."

Bus driver implicated in road rage

A bus driver has been suspended on full pay following an alleged road rage incident in Auckland city.

Those involved claim the driver tried to rip a woman from her car and then threw a punch at a bystander who was trying to help.

Alleged road rage victim Bill Ellingham says the bus driver got out of his bus, went to the car, ripped the door open and got inside.

Ellingham says he ran to the aid of a woman under attack. "I said oi, or words to the effect like no need for that. Ten seconds or two seconds later I was on the ground."

Witness Andy Hoey says the Stagecoach bus driver lost it. "Most people on the street were pretty shocked. You could hear people talking, they couldn't believe what had happened."

Ellingham phoned police but by the time they arrived the driver had taken off.

Stagecoach says if the allegations against the driver are true, then he no longer has a job. Meanwhile he has been suspended on full pay pending the police investigation.

Police have seized footage from a security camera as they investigate the attack. But so far, no charges have been laid.

U-turn on Banned Bus And Taxi Drivers

The Government is moving to change a law that has caused some taxi and bus drivers to put their jobs on hold because of minor, historic sex convictions.

Transport Safety Minister Harry Duynhoven said 162 drivers have not been able to carry passengers since changes to the Land Transport Act came into effect last month.

The changes prevent people convicted of murder, sexual offences punishable by seven or more years' imprisonment or serious violent offences from holding P (passenger) endorsement licences.

Between 40 and 50 people complained, saying their decades-old convictions were trivial and their records otherwise unblemished.

Among them was a Dunedin man who, 34 years ago when he was 16, had had sex with his girlfriend two days short of her 16th birthday.

The new proposal assumes the net was cast too wide and would give the Director of Land Transport the power to reinstate passenger licences to drivers where appropriate.

"We want to make sure the Act allows people to continue their employment as passenger service drivers without compromising public safety and security," Mr Duynhoven said.

John Collyns, executive director for the Bus and Coach Association, supported the proposal but was concerned the process might take too long.

"Some drivers and businesses have been seriously disadvantaged and are suffering. I know one operator whose business is on hold, and if he doesn't get his licence back soon, he'll have to fold his business."

The new bill is due for its first reading in Parliament this week and if it passes will go to select committee for three weeks.

It could be passed into law as soon as next month.

Mr Duynhoven said he would urge Parliament and the select committee to consider that some drivers had been out of work for a month.

National transport spokesman Maurice Williamson conceded some of those caught in the net should be allowed to hold passenger licences.

But he was worried the change would permit all parties, including murderers and rapists, to appeal to the Director of Land Transport.

Violence erupts in Owerri as police kill bus driver

A violent clash erupted in Owerri, capital city of Imo State on Tuesday between men of the Nigeria Police and members of the road transport workers (Bus Drivers), leading to the killing of a driver while two others were critically wounded.

The commotion which lasted for more than two hours, started as early as 7.00am at Okigwe road/Wetheral round about motor park axis, located few poles to the Government House, Owerri.

Our correspondent reports that the incident disrupted business activities and free flow of both human and motor traffic for several hours as the aggrieved members barricaded the Okigwe Road, Union Bank/Prison and Modotel, carrying some dangerous weapons, logs/wooden tables in protest of the said extra-judicial killing of their colleague.

Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident shortly after the evacuation of the corpse of the victim, reports that the Police in company of his cohorts attached to the reconstituted Task Force on illegal Motor Parks and Obstructions instituted by the Owerri Municipal Council, had arrived the area classified to be illegal park in full bus load for possible arrest and eviction of alleged illegal users/occupants before the incident.

It was further gathered that the unfortunate young driver, a native of Aguileri in Anambra State (Aka-Aguleri Boy) met his untimely death that morning when the task force on raiding/patrol accosted/caught him along with the conductor inside their L-300 Mitsubishi Bus and attempted to take hold of the bus key which was not in motion, but met with stiff resistance from the driver who failed to succumb to the pressure.

Provoked by the resistance the corp, according to an eye witness reached for his long range raffle and shot the driver on the chest, and he died instantly, whereas the conductor and another passersby who arrived to buy some newspapers, had their legs shattered by bullets.

Colleagues of the late driver whose corpse was taken to an unknown destination trooped out in thousands, chanted war songs and matched down to the old Okigwe main motor park by Tetlow Street junction with a promise to avenge the killing of their member by the Police. The revenue office of the council within the park was vandalised in the process, while a Passat saloon car with registration No AA709 BKW belonging to one of the officials was equally damaged.

It took the arrival of a detachment of policemen to restore normalcy. Although, the major/strategic areas, manned by police traffic officers within the metropolis were completely deserted for several hours, as those posted to their duty beats refused such directives, for fear of reprisal attack or possible molestation from the mob (bus drivers).

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Isa Mohammed, when contacted in his office at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters confirmed the incident, but quickly told our correspondent that the matter is being investigated.

Bus driver in the dock after fatal accident

A KwaZulu-Natal bus driver will face 13 counts of culpable homicide after this weekend's horror crash in Ixopo in which 13 people died and 15 others suffered serious injuries.

Inkosi Nyanga Ngubane, the MEC for Social Welfare and Population Development, visited the injured at Christ the King Hospital in Ixopo and Pietermaritzburg's Edendale Hospital on Sunday.

Ngubane said his department would go back to Ixopo on Tuesday to assess the bereaved families' needs and how the departments of Social Welfare, Transport and local municipalities would assist.

Police said the bus was coming from the Highflats area with a load that was headed for a function in Ixopo, at which Ngubane was to speak. Police spokesperson Gerald Mfeka said the driver had struggled to negotiate a sharp bend.

"They were going to Ufafa at Ixopo to attend the function. The bus was approaching a bend and the driver had difficulty negotiating it. The bus overturned killing 12, six males and six females, and leaving 15 others seriously injured," said Mfeka.

He said the driver had also sustained injuries and was admitted to Christ the King Hospital. "Once he is released he will be charged with culpable homicide," he said.

Ngubane said: "I had invited the people for a departmental function which was attended by people from my department and the local municipality. Unfortunately the driver lost control and the bus went down a drift. As of this morning (Sunday) 13 people have died.

"The function was postponed and I will be informing the community when it will be held.

"I have instructed social workers to visit every patient as of tomorrow (Monday) to establish their home situation. Some of them are breadwinners and we need to help them so that while they are in hospital their families will not suffer.

"On Tuesday I will go back to Ixopo with food parcels for the bereaved families and to find out how we can help with funeral arrangements," said Ngubane. Ngubane said his department, the Department of Transport and the local municipality would help the families with food and coffins.

The driver of the bus which crashed near Aberdeen in the Eastern Cape faces 11 counts of culpable homicide. This comes after police released the official number of passengers killed in the accident. The Khusuleka Express driver also faces charges of negligent and reckless driving.

The driver, whose name may not be released as he has not yet been arrested and charged, escaped with minor injuries. Four passengers are in stable conditions in Port Elizabeth's Provincial Hospital. The remaining passengers were taken to Cape Town by a replacement bus sent by the same company. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

Eleven people, including a 10-month-old baby, died when the bus veered off a straight section of the road between Aberdeen and Beaufort-West late on Tuesday.

Limpopo accident
Limpopo police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following yesterday's bus accident on the R101 near Mokopane which claimed four lives. The bus driver is among the 34 victims who are still in a serious condition in hospital.

The Automobile Association has called on government to take urgent action following the spate of bus accidents in the country.

my wicked school-bus driver was a pedophile.. The early signs were smoking in a non-smoking bus, pressing the ticket button rapidly and repeatedly with way to much amusement, and driving off with the slow kids running outside knocking and screaming on the door. He also liked to poke people who didn't have their bus-pass... frightening :cold:
