Ex- school bus driver admits to child porn charges
http://www.dailyfreeman.com/site/news.cfm?BRD=1769&dept_id=72585&newsid=16134975&PAG=461&rfi=9A former bus driver for Red Hook schools and employee of an Elizaville overnight camp has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Albany to child pornography charges.
David Leach, 55, of Elizaville admitted that in April 2003 he posted numerous images of child pornography to a group or community of Microsoft Networks, according to Glenn T. Suddaby, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, and William D. Chase, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Albany Division.
Leach worked as a bus driver for the Red Hook Central School District from 1990 to 1991 and again from 1994 to 2003, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Spina Jr. Leach also worked as a part-time driver and night watchman at Camp Scatico in Elizaville from 2001 to 2003, Spina said.
A person who answered a call to the camp but who refused to give his name said Leach had worked there "years ago" but said he had no other comment. Red Hook school authorities could not be reached for comment. Spina said Leach is currently unemployed.
Spina said a federal search warrant was executed at Leach's home on Oct. 31, 2003, and a computer and a number of computer discs were seized. Examination of the computer and discs found hundreds of images of minors, many of them prepubescent, engaged in sexually explicit conduct, Spina said.
Leach admitted he posted to MSN an "album" of photos entitled "Dave's Collection," which contained images depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, Spina said. He also said Leach admitted he had been a member of several MSN and Yahoo e-groups and communities, had uploaded sexually explicit images of minors and child erotica to these sites, had joined "Lolita"-type web sites and had been collecting child pornography for two years.
Leach will be sentenced in June. Spina said he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Leach was released pending sentencing.
The case was investigated by the FBI's Cyber Predator Task Force and the New York state Crimes Against Children Task Force.
