But Sir, I don't want to do Medical Physics! (1 Viewer)

"Alas, no young grasshooper, as Medical Physics is revision of the work!"

"But I want to do Quanta to Quarks!", I think to myself.

So uhh... is this Medical Physics stuff good or should I try to lobby my teacher to change his direction or, go full left-field and study it in private while the rest of the class do MP?

I suggest not. Doesn't matter anyway because Medical Physics is the second most popular option and there were state rankers last year who did Medical Physics I think.

Medical Physics is piss easy. Whether it is interesting or not really depends on the individual though.

So it's piss easy... and I assume Quanta to Quarks is difficult?

I blame the nuclear bomb picture =(

Also Dragonmaster, what was the most popular option?

Well in comparison it's more difficult.
Most popular would be Quanta to Quarks I think.

But Medical Physics is mainly theory, I think from memory - there's only two formulas (Acoustic Impedance and Density) - and they're all straightforward.

Errr... the nuclear bomb picture enticed me?

That would be good, if it didn't look so complicated =P

It's not that complicated, actually =] At least I didn't find it to be.
You need a good teacher though.

Unfortunately, our class did not have the best teacher, so I spent a lot of time at TSFX lectures as well as teaching myself and I still got a very decent B6 result =]

It may not be complicated... but is it... good?

It was my favourite topic =] By far.
I loved space too though.

I liked it cos it was indeed 'piss easy' in the sense it wasn't more maths, cos I'm shithouse at maths.

At the start when the teacher told us we were doing medical most complanied and were "imma learn Q2Q myself and do that for the HSC" but everyone ended up rolling with medical, even the hardcore maths kids.

what was the most popular option?
I got the stats not too long ago, Q2Q was by far the most popular (42% of the state or so), Med Physics was high 20s and Astrophysics was low 20s. The others were in single digits.

Q2Q is very interesting and a good follow up to I2I, in fact, some of the stuff which was in the 2001 I2I course is now in Q2Q.

A couple of my tutoring students who are doing Med Phys and Astrophysics have been told by their teacher they are able to do any elective they want and they will be doing Q2Q under my guidance :) There really isn't that many different questions they can ask in the HSC in Q2Q.

IMHO it was the easiest option in the 2009 HSC by far, although Med Phys and Astro were pretty easy too

Apparently the others in my class don't want to do Q2Q because "it's too hard". I kindly pointed them to the syllabus which showed it's basically theoretical stuff... and no super complicated maths. Then they reverted to "But sir won't let us do it because he picked Medical!"

Ah well, if they are all as easy as you all make them seem - I suppose it doesn't matter and the only loser is my desire...

tbh if they are fine with the rest of the course I can't see Q2Q bothering them but yeh

It's funny, people hear the name and they think it's going to be really hard because it has got 2 words in it which they probably don't know the meaning of. They hear "quanta" and think "quantum physics" and start thinking its going to be like Mathematics Extension 50 or something. It's an introduction to the theory behind quantum physics, not the mathematics of it.
