ROFL @ Winston. AMD fan boy heh...

Kn1ght_M4r3, what is your budget? Helps to know.

Edit: And do you wish to include peripherals - KBoard + mouse, speakers, monitor etc ? Or are you going to keep the current ones that you're running?

*whistle* Nice budget.

This is something I would get in your situation.

Intel Pentium 4 2.60Ghz(C) (800MHZ FSB/HT) $385.00
Abit IC7, Intel Canterwood / ICH5, 533/800FSB, AGP8X, Dual Channel DDR 400, SATA $250.00
512MB XMS-3200LL (400MHz) DDR RAM "Corsair", ULTRA LOW LATENCY SPD $295.00
Leadtek A310 Geforce FX-5600 MYVIVO 128mb $350.00
Philips 109B 19" Real Flat monitor $459.00
Western Digital Caviar WD1200JB (120gb, 7200rpm, ATA100, 8MB) $195.00
Pioneer DVR-106 4X DVD-R/+R/DVD-RW OEM ($10 OFF WHEN BOUGHT WITH 10+ BLANK DVDS) $355.00
Audigy DE Special Edition $135.00
Creative Inspire 5.1 5200 5.1 Speakers $175.00
Sony 1.44mb Floppy Drive $20.00

Aopen H600A Super Midi Tower with 300w P4 Ready Power supply and USB & Audio front panel $145.00
Window XP-Home OEM $180.00

Total: $2944.00

All prices from www.scorptech.com.au

That 2.6GHz P4(C) should go to 3.2GHz w/o much problems on air.

XP Home since I don't think XP Pro makes much a difference to warrant a extra $100. Look around for better prices - I'm sure you'll find better ones than these.

I don't particularly like LCD's since I'm a avid gamer, and a 19" LCD would cost alot more than that 19" Flat CRT. The best LCD's IMO are Sony, as are their CRTs. They'll cost you 2 arms and 2 legs though.

PS. I left out the KBoard + Mouse. :(

My 2.4C goes to 3.5 (ceiling of about 3.6)
but I leave it at ~3.3 - 3.4GHz

I like your mobo choice, it's the same as mine!!!
And also your DVD+-RW option, I have the same one :)

Huy, you running a stock HSF? ASIII? If not is your HSF lapped? I don't remember how high some P4(C)s can go.

That mobo is a nice one, though the IC7-G is betta :p The Max3 version though is freken awesome, but I don't think it's available yet - and its around 400AUD (I think).

I don't know anything absolutely about DVD-R/RW/+R/RWs. I just like Pioneer in general :p

The things is, that's what i call a everyday use, moderate gamer + movie machine.

With 3000 I'd have a NFS v2.0 and a 2500XP+ w/ a nice H2O setup. And probably 2x 19" CRTs :D

yep, stock intel hsf. :)

nice temps atm
25C idle
38C load

12*275mhz
2-5-4-4 timings

the highest i've seen is about 43C or so for mine, which is nice and low IMO.

yep, the IC7-G is better, but i like the IC7 :)
cool, i bought my pioneer dvr-106D for about $400 a few weeks ago, the price drop is incredible :) i was going to get the sony ddu-500u or whatever it is, but went for pioneer.

my mate's getting a water cooled setup, so i'll see how that goes.. :)

i've got 2x512MB kingston ddr400/pc3200 (dual channel).
not looking to add anymore anytime soon, 1GB is plenty.

I like AMD as much as Intel. It's just that Kn1ght_M4r3 has $3000 to spend, and you won't be able to get the raw MHz o/c out of a XP+ like a P4(C).

Assuming you building your system by your-self, Considering looking at this forum
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=52057

My advices is to buy from MSY unless they dont have it
http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS_W.HTM

Cheapest CPU, MB, RAM, others, I can found (Just brought a new PC a week ago).

All MSY's 17" LCD are non-DVI.
So I brought Mitsubish DV172 from PCMarket, $725. Try to make sure you get DVI, you will find significant improvement when playing games and watching DVD.

ATI Radeon 9600 Pro is good-value $300

Try to get Wireless Keyboard & Mouse, I assure you will love it, especially the Logitech MX Duo $150

Careful with Seagate HD, they make a ticking noise, WD is quiter when writing and reading.

BTW, Creative Inspire 5100 aint that great, get 5300, it is way better!

yea msy.com.au is hell cheap

but i heard they import it themselves n shit and in some wat rort the system, it was annouced a while ago

that's why if u go to ARC computers and make them match prices, they sometimes cant compare with msy

coz its unbelievable

Order has been restored.

I don't mean to say "Invoice/Order/Receipt/Shipments" kind of "order".

I meant 'Order/Chaos' kind of order :)
