Can a Learner still drive the car if their supervisor isnt directly beside them (1 Viewer)

I'm 99% sure they have to be in the front seat directly next to the learner driver, in NSW at least.

New South Wales - no, the supervisor must sit beside you > http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/licence/road_users_handbook-english.pdf
Queensland - no, they must be beside you > https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/licensing/getting/rules

Just a small sample I Googled. Funnily enough NSW was the hardest to find as all the usual websites don't have it mentioned explicitly until you check the road rules which specify the role of the supervisor.
