Say you did really well in your school assessments and your trials/HSC were good but not as good as your assessments, can your assessments help scale your ATAR high?

Scaling happens after your internal and externals are averaged and your final marks for individual subjects are determined.

So no

All I know is that (I think) if you get 1st in internal rankings, you get the highest HSC exam mark for your internal mark. Then deviation and stuff come in after so I don't know too much about that...

Yes, and no - I don't think your understanding's clear so I'll try and help you out. All your in-school assessments, trials, everything - it's all to get a RANK (and nothing else). If your rank is good, then your assessment mark will be good. So if you come first in everything internally and bomb the externals, then yes, your ATAR will still be half okay because your school marks will still be high.

And yeah, that's spot on. You're not using the word 'scale' correctly here.

Unfortunately if you're at a lower rank school and you really good assessment marks, unless someone gets high examination to back it up persay, it's not good.
Like if you get rank 1 just for an easy comparison, and the highest mark in external exam is 93. Then you will get that 93 as your assessment mark plus what you got yourself in the external exam say 84. Then it is 84+93/2 and your HSC mark will be 89.
