Can I get a 99+ ATAR if I try? (1 Viewer)

I must admit that in the Yr 12 term 1 assessments I didn't do as well as I wanted:

Physics - 82% - Rank 16/48
Chemistry - 72% - Rank 50/60 (yeah I know I did really bad)
Biology - 93% - Rank 5/48
English - 80% - Rank 30/150
Mathematics Ext 1 - 74% - Rank 68/86
Mathematics Ext 2 - 50% - Rank 30/32

I have my Half-yearlies coming up, and I'm trying to work hard for it.
If I get an ok mark in half-yearly and do really really well and trials and HSC, do 5 hours of work a day.
Would I be able to get an ATAR of 99+?

Do not measure your success by how many hours you study, make sure you know the content and mine it well- that's what's important. But yes you can still achieve 99 if you put in consistent effort

term 1 assessments don't really count for that much tbh, if you get top 5 for everything in half yearlies and in trials you can hope to get 97 or 98+ and it depends on your school too. Your only good rank is bio tbh, everything else you need to toughen up.

I go to a selective school, which is in the top 50 rank in state, does that change anything?

its not about working harder, but working smarter. identify your problem areas and determine where you can improve and work on those areas. your mx2 rank is a bit concerning, and you definitely need to pull your game up A LOT. even if scaling and stuff is so awesome for MX2, you definitely need to improve your rank for it. not sure what your school rank is, but if you want 99, you have to be in the top calibre of students. this goes for pretty much any school. it just so happens in selective schools, the cohorts are stronger and more people are within that top range.

yeah if you top 5 or top 10 in everything probably guaranteed 98+

You can't rely on school scaling to pull you up. Or subject scaling, or tuition.

It all comes down to how effectively you identify your weaknesses and crush them.

You may also want to ask yourself "Why do I want 99+"? Because a lot of the time, it's not necessarily what you need to do what you want to do.

Selective school ranked in the top 50 doesn't automatically guarantee a 99 ATAR... those ranks aren't great to tell the truth
