Hi guys
i'm suffering from bulimia nervosa and not sure if i can get special provision (this problem is getting more serious n affects my concentration when studying/doing exams)
the teacher in charge is not very nice so i want to make sure i am eligible for it before talking to her
i do visit my doctor and psychologist regularly
a proof/letter from my doctor is all i need right?
thanks guys

Go for it, I'm pretty sure you have a high chance of getting special provisions , considering your status.

Yep, that's what you need.

Yeah it think you're most likely able to!
Yeah getting a letter from your doctor is most likely to be fine (make sure he/she stamps the letter)

Go with both just for safety if it's not too much of a hassle

I'm not too sure how special provisions works so i'm not sure what you'd get though

You should try the Educational Access Scheme: http://www.uac.edu.au/undergraduate/eas/
From what I know, you just need to fill out the form, get info from either doctor saying it affected your studies and then have everything stamped by JP or similar. My sister did it for her HSC after a death in the family.

Pretty sure you'll be eligible.

Goodluck!

Not sure, but I think something like 5 extra UAI points? Don't know if that's still how it works though.

Special provisions involves things like extra time for exams and separate supervision.

EAS involves things like the benefits regarding UAI points.

People can qualify for one or both of the above.

I am not sure if you qualify for the first but I am reasonably sure you qualify for the second.

You will need to talk to the relevant teachers at school as the applications for special provisions are rather rigorous and can involve more than just a simple letter but even more tests or an independent examination such as seeing a specific specialist as opposed to just your own - for special provisions you have to also show that you need the extra time or separate supervision and I suspect that is possible as no doubt you are being told to eat smaller quantities of food but more often and so need to have the break to eat etc - like a diabetic but please, please talk to your teachers at school.

I'd advise you to be as quick as possible in submitting a request for provisions, the BOS can be quite slow to respond, in my case my school sent it off in mid-December, only got it back a week ago. But as long as they receive it in time, they should grant you provisions. They may not give you exactly what you want, I requested extra time but only got rest breaks, so don't be too disappointed if you don't get exactly what you request, particularly if its something the BOS is usually reluctant to (apparently they only granted extra time to about 2 kids at my school in 3 years and in one case it took 6 appeals).

I would probably go talk to your school - we can only speculate, but your school should be able to give you the best and most reliable answer.

Thanks guys I got the special provision already. I got the rest breaks. Does anyone get this special provision too? What do you do in that 5 minutes? Also, for the EAS scheme, how many extra marks will I be given?

The breaks are meant to allow you to relax.

You don't get extra marks. What happens is that you are allowed into a course with an ATAR cut-off above the ATAR you achieved e.g. if you get 5 ATAR points you still only get the ATAR you earned - say 90 - but your are eligible for a course with a cut-off of 95.

Here's a link to the table of Disability Provisions: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/disability-provisions/case-study.html
I think bulimia would fall under the "Anxiety and Depression" category as you would need a psychologist's report of diagnosis and the provisions you will be granted would be quite similar to those that fall in that category - maybe except for extra time to work because that is hardly ever granted!
