Hi guys,

I am just wondering if I can still get a 90 ATAR if I did really bad in my half yearlys. For most of my subjects the weighing is around 20-30%.I really stuffed up but i know i can do a lot better. Is it still possible if i can make it up in the trials, hsc exams and the assessment along the way to the trials with these half yearly exams:

Standard English: 50%
General Maths: 50%
Industrial Technology(Multimedia): 58%
Engineering Studies: 37%
Physics: 22%
SOR: 60%

It's still definitely possible, but you'll have to put a lot of effort in. Take your results as a wake up call.

don't worry about the past, what is done is done
focus on the future and all the opportunities you have
remember ur internal marks only make up 50% of ur total hsc
so if u go bad in one assessment, u can always make it up if u take action NOW
remember failure is a guide to success

Marks don't mean shit.

It's all about your rank. Doesn't matter if you got 50% in english if you're ranked like 5/100 kids that's still good.

What matters is the highest mark in the actual HSC exam and your personal mark.

Work hard and you'll be fine.

Unfortunately doing Standard English makes your chances are a lower. It's true like others said, If you work really hard you can probably still get there, but the "really hard" part really does mean studying like all day for most days, going from those kind of marks to 90+ atar material takes a long time, and that's something that you don't have much of during the HSC year. I don't want to be negative or anything, but just revise your plans for the future, into something along the 80s area, because if a shock comes with you're ATAR and you're not prepared, it makes things that much worse. That being said goodluck (Y) still quite possible, although ranks for all the test would have to be top 1-3.

"I got a 99 ATAR without studying one bit. You should be fine..."

- the classic response from every snakeish person on boredofstudies.

To be honest, (and I'm not sure if someone already said this) if you're failing all your exams now, you probably lack the intellect or discipline to get into the band 6 range. But in saying that, one of my best mates, who did the HSC last year was in a similar position to you, and ended up coming out with a 92. But he worked bloody hard in the second half of the HSC.
