Can we quote the general equation of a tangent in conics? (1 Viewer)

Like for an ellipse:

xx1/a^2 + yy1/b^2 = 1??? Or do we have to work it out? I can do both but quoting it is a MASSIVE time saver

Every HSC question I remember either directly asks you to find the tangent, or it gives it to you.
But to answer your question, the syllabus does not quote these as formulas to remember, so no.

Tbh, your better off proving it, only takes 20 secs. Better to avoid making a mistake from trying to remember it.
