Chromosomes form during cell division and can seen under a light microscope. However, you can't see chromatin which are long thin strands that get coiled to become chromosomes during cell division. I think the above posters are referring to chromatin, hopefully.

So you can see chromosones with a lught microscope but inly if the cell is dividing? Thanks so much btw◑﹏◐

Oh yeah, only during metaphase, not any other time.
