is it true that for the case study section of the exam, you don't need to stick to essay structure - instead you use subheadings ?? anyone else heard that before? thats what my teacher told us

I haven't heard anything like that before. We're suppose to structure our essays based upon the interpretations of our chosen historians on a chosen focus area in our case study. We're suppose to link it with their context, methodology, attitudes and their debates with each other. By doing this, you create some sort of "tapestry" effect/

You need an essay for BOTH section 1 and 2 of the HSC History Extension exam :)

Thats right. The only place you might consider headings is the research project if it suits seperate sections. Your exam essays should flow comfortably between paragraphs and you should spend a couple of minutes before each question thinking about how your ideas relate and how you can segue (lmao The Chaser) well. Also a tip for the exam: Take a position from the start and argue it, don't ever comprimise - even if it isn't what you believe.
