Does any one know anything about the Enzyme Catlase I have to do my open ended investigation on it.

lolz, i dunno wut does catalase do, so i did a search on googles... oh my, the power of internet:

cowgirl: u've probably got the info, but catalse catalyses the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide, which is a poisonous waste

basically hmm, should i go into the structure actually did an asst on this for chem, but it has 2 i think hame quartenary structures;; lolz okay too detailed

basic reaction is:

2H2O2 ----> O2 + 2H2O

possibly. i think i missed out on one prac though. unsure which one, but i know its something to do with the enzymes stuff..

This experiment we did measure substrate concentration and enzyme activity. We put a potato, which has catalase in it (the enzyme), into a variety of test tubes with distilled water and hydrogen peroxide (The substrate).
Test tube:
1: 0mL distilled water, 10ml hydrogen peroxide
2: 2.5mL distilled water, 7.5ml hydrogen peroxide
3: 5mL distilled water, 5ml hydrogen peroxide
4: 7.5mL distilled water, 2.5ml hydrogen peroxide
5: 10mL distilled water, 0ml hydrogen peroxide

Bubbles will go up the tube, the height of the bubbles indicated the amount of activity of the enzmy

catalase helps break down hydrogen peroxide into hydrogen and oxygen used in the enzyme prac for.. assessing the rate of reaction of potato or liver.
