Is my logic/calculations correct?

Say 5k wanna do medicine, 2k apply for adelaide (from the adelaide 2006 booklet) 400 people from adelaide make it to interview stage, so thats about 400/2000= top 25% (not including ppl who are ranked 400-450 in umat and get uai>99)
So basically you need to get a umat percentile score of around 75*3 = 225 to be considered for the interviews. (assuming that the umat scores are evenly disitributed)

problem is its at the schools discretion..
and ure assuming tat the top 400 ppl will apply to adel...

so ppl lik lexi.. who sat UMAT.. wasnt eligible for adel because he had a teritary record...
and the school's data is private..
but aim for 225 for and ull befine.. get higher bettter :)

Sorry if this is a little off topic,

Does Velox's (good i think) estimate that ~5000 people want to do undegrad med every year sound right?
After all, we know for sure that there are at least 2000 med students cos this is how many apply to adelaide and NSW (most of these apps would be from the same 2000 students I figure).

Or do those students only apply locally making the total number of applicants greater?

You can't really make these 'mathematical' guesses. But I'm actually quite surprised at how accurate those calcultations are. But on the other side stop wasting your time on that and study for the actual test.
But if it relaxes your mind I think Adelaide med seems to have (percentage) cutoff of about 220 and Adelaide dentistry a cutoff of 180. But it's important which one you put first on your preferences (put the one you want to do first - sounds obvious but yeah).
And you just need a UAI of 90+ and then there's the hard part of getting past the interview.

In reality don't worry about it because you can calculate it to the level of getting a formula that gives you an exact percentage chance of getting in but it's just usuless - just do it! Do your best in UMAT, your results will come and then you'll see if you get an interview, then you need to do a good interview.

I don't think you can assume the top 400 will apply, but try to do your best.
You have to remember that Adelaide Med/Dent have early cut-offs which many people miss.

I think Keen's referring to the fact that the dual med application is due into SATAC sometime towards the end of August. The rest of the state bodies need it in by the end of September. However, it would be rather sad to miss out on medicine just because you forgot that SATAC was an exception.

My umat score is 183...say that i have an outstanding interview and get an A or a B

what sort of UAI would i need for adelaide?

i could b wrong, and sum1 correct me if i am, but adelaide jst hv a benchmark uai and umat score. U just need to get above 90, and they dont rank u according to uai, they rank u solely on interview
