Diamond reflects light well so is used in jewellery and also hard so used to cut stuff.

Graphite's structure allows layers of stuff to be rubbed off so is used in pencils.

its all in the structure.
diamonds are primarily used as jewellery due to its visual appeal OR strong drills due to diamond's hardness

graphite is an electrical conductor and so used in batteries and aluminium from ores. also used in lead pencils described by exploitable (each carbon atom is only bonded to 3 others so it forms planes which is what is rubbed off the pencil)

graphite, weak dispersion forces between layers

compared to strong covalent bonds in a crystal lattice
