Civil Engineering - USYD (with scholarship) vs. UNSW (1 Viewer)

I received a merit scholarship ($6,000 p.a.) to study civil engineering at USyd. However, I've heard from many people that engineering courses are considered better at UNSW so I'm a bit double minded at the moment. Can someone please tell me the differences between the two universities and why UNSW is considered better for civil engineering. A list of pros and cons would be good if possible. Thanks!

Between two great universities like USYD vs UNSW, I would say follow the money if you are generally like Sophie's Choice can't split the two.

That said, you should never sell out for money if you really want to go to UNSW more, but considering it's the same course at both top unis I'm not sure if the choice will be as divisive for you. But if you truly really want to study at UNSW and don't at USYD, don't let the money sway you. You can always earn money, but it is a big help at university.

If you look up any number of uni rankings, both have good rankings in engineering and for example:

See this for civil (take with a grain of salt only one ranking system), USYD in civil is 12th and UNSW is 15th.

Check for any subtle differences in subject/elective freedom, major options etc. between the two institutes, I'm not conversant with any differences in university.

same as Parvee.... USYD. UNSW is very good at civil; but USYD wouldn't be far behind. It's almost a no brainer. I went to UNSW btw and I've worked with engineers from USyd, and they are as good.

Engineering is similar at both unis, so take the scholarship. Not only is it prestigious, but you'll be $24,000 better off by the end of the degree.

Take the scholarship but at USYD I think you're locked into a particular discipline of Civil Engineering (Geotech, Structures, Construction, Transport, Water etc.) but at UNSW it's more flexible.

May I clarify civil at usyd please.

Civil at usyd has several streams (or majors) in the areas of structures, geotechnical, constructionroject management and environmental.

All students in civil get a grounding in all of these areas regardless if they are in one stream or another.

In your final years, you have electives, and you can choose to specialise in one of these areas to get a specialist degree (*some conditions apply), or you can pick a mix of them.

Are USyd graduates just as readily employed as UNSW graduates for civil engineering (in other words, do they prefer UNSW graduates)?
Can anyone comment on the facilities and lecturers for civil engineering at USyd and/or UNSW?
Also, is a scholarship looked favorably upon when applying for jobs etc?

The lecturers at UNSW for civil are generally good with some key exceptions and I have found the facilities satisfactory
