Also, for paper 1 short answer, my teacher was saying that your quotes should be the same amount as the marks given (i.e 4 marks = 4 quotes) but luterally every other person including jeddle says (number) mark - 1 (4 marks = 3 quotes). What would be more beneficial?

My school also said to do number of marks - 1 for quotes

My teacher also said that, but apparently in the HSC it's marks -1

and yeah I think it's marks - 1, it might be different for the mini essay (i.e. 7/8 markers) though

general formula is where m is the number of marks and n is the number of texts, and q is the number of quotes/techniques per text. but as i recall this is only explicitly stated in the year 11 short answer criteria, its not in year 12 criteria so the formula is only a guideline the year 12 criteria only assesses you on cohesion and depth

me too. as much as i like how much freedom i have because of how much analysis i have, it's also quite paralysing and putting me in a state of indecision, much like prufrock (like ethanol mentioned), i spend so much time debating which analysis to use, and ultimately drown my conscious when i'm awoken by the reality THAT I ONLY HAVE 40 MINUTES, the demands of external reality and mundanity of everyday life is not consistent with who we really are and want we want, which is NO ENGLISH because it sucksssssssssss :chainsaw2::mad3:

Did u make a math formula for English lmao. Imagine wiring this on ur English paper and Ur teacher being so confused as to why ur doing math. That’s so funny. See that’s why math is more useful than eng

yeah lmao my friends and i were slacking one lesson so we went through the yr 11 short answer criterias and derived a formula based off the quote to mark to text ratio (oml we're so nerdy what the hell are we doing)

Omg that’s actually so smart. I should do that one day in Eng and then if my teacher tells me to do work I can say that it relates to English lol

I thought u were trolling until I actually interpreted the formula and realised that you're basically right

also btw I'm not even struggling my predicted atar is an 86 cunt I just want an 80 atar 75 so it can get adjusted to 80 wtf why r u guys being cunts on a hsc forum I'm actually shocked
fr. they just wanna feel good about themselves by hating on roughly the median atar... nothing wrong with wanting a 75 atar if that's what you need for your course
people like that pmo because they don't realise that the atar isn't a measure of intelligence, and shouldn't be thought of as a measure of intelligence.

but to answer your question you might want to use atar calculators as a rough guide, but depending on if your school sets easy tests or not it's kind of hard to tell if it's a good estimation. keep in mind, a 70 atar is about the average atar, so you'll need to be above average. english standard doesn't scale well, and english advanced has almost as many students but scales significantly better, so you'll probably want to be more than just above average in that subject. as well as hospitality. But, at the end of the day, it's very hard to know what grades you need to get, because at this stage it all depends on how hard your school tests are, and what your cohort at school is like.
However, since you say that your predicted atar is 86, you should probably just keep doing what you're doing. It's better to accidentally get an 86 atar than to just miss out on the course that you want to do...
For bonus points, definitely look at the UAC website about that.

Anyway, I'm sure you know all of this already, but I'm just procrastinating doing my Drama major work trial rn lol.
