It's also crazy how NESA gives people extra time in exams, just cause they are diagnosed with autism or adhd. This isn't equity, this is literally unfair. I need extra time as well since I have a very low IQ. My raw in the MX1 exam could've been like 57/70 as well if they actually gave us more than 2 hours like how they do for these people. Why don't they just give everyone extra time? 2 hours to answer 30 seperate questions is way too short.

they need to give everyone extra time then, not just a select few. The english exams being 1 hour long for 3 essays is crazy. What's more crazy is being forced to answer 30 math questions in 2 hours. Extension 1 maths should be 2 hours and 30 minutes.

It’s acc such a stupid provision so many ppl in my school get it, idk how it’s fair

no for being poor. i think being poor is a justified EAS reason, especially with the tutoring favorable HSC for subjects like English and Chemisery. If you're poor, you can't afford tutoring, and for it to be equitable you should get adjustment points.

Dumb. If so, then half of Sydney would get these bonus marks. Very few families have disposable income to send their kids to tutoring.

Tbh I’m thinking it’s more than bad handwriting because you need to submit documented medical evidence to nesa. Mostly provisions are 5 minute rest breaks, extra time is much rarer and I don’t know of many who have it (except maybe 1)

yeah the only person I knew who had provs of extra time was dyslexic and her grades (no offence) really weren't that good so it definitely wasn't an advantage for her

the NESA thing tho to be fair is only necessary for HSC like there's nothing stopping schools from giving provs for internals 'cause they won't get caught

sucks tho bc I know lots of people who lost like 30% of marks 'cause of handwriting

but yeah the only provisions I really know of are breaks, and for like ADHD/autism lots of the time they get like objects for fidgeting not actual time benefits (in my experience)

I have those 5 minute breaks (no extra writing time) because I injured my dominant hand a couple months ago and I physically can't write for 1 hour or more without needing a break to rest so I kinda feel like thats fair.

But yeah nesa gives those out wayyy too easily a kid in my year gets to type all his hsc exams because "his handwriting is bad".

I think people get points if they're in the bottom 25% of socioeconomic status - This would obviously include people in Sydney, but also many regional/remote students who are disadvantaged because they don't have as much access to education resources. This isn't just external tutoring, but in school too; schools with lower funding/of a lower decile would have less experienced/committed teachers, higher rates of student trouble and less resources to boost education. Also, lower socioeconomic students (especially remote ones with less access to public resources e.g. libraries) would have less access to textbooks and paid online services, often having to work to support themselves or their family which in turn detracts time spent on school

5 minute rest breaks? u need to get a whole nesa form completed to get rest breaks. i dont think its that easy
