what are the most common cliches to avoid for creatives?
aside from the classic hungergames-esque style main character/coming of age type stories....
also immigrant stories, would u guys consider them cliche?

Immigrant stories can be good if written well, especially with interesting personal voice and anecdotes.

Also more cliches: those typical "waking up late on the first day of school" story beginnings. And the whole fated pairs, love at first sight, lovey-dovey romance, ugh.

“I woke up...”

Stuff like that. You should make the opening of a story unique so that it hooks the marker. Not only the opening but the whole story

Yess! You can even change up the story order by starting with the complication.
