In Singapore you need a COE to entitle you to operate a car. The price of COE is determined by a bidding process - so the price can go up and down. You may find the latest price an eye-opener.
For Category A (for engine capacity < 1600 cc) - it is $55,989 [about $50k Aussie]
For Category B(>1600 cc) - it is $68,501 [about 60k AUD]
That's what you need to pay before even buying the car (also much costlier than in Australia!). Then on top of that I believe you pay and pay for right to drive into the CBD which make up about 20% of Singapore island.
So it'd cost say about $100k Aussie for the privilege to own & drive a Honda Civic!
Aren't we bloody lucky here in Oz.
