im a bit confused on how my atar would be impacted if the rest of the cohort performs bad ?? like wouldnt i get pushed up because of a higher rank if i do better than them ?? like how am i getting dragged down with them

also if i reach the breakeven point for a subject then their performance wont impact my atar right ? someone please answer ASAP

breakeven point is a lie look at alignment instead at rawmarks.info

unless your ranked first or tightly around that I bad cohort will push you down even if your doing better than them unless the top percentile of students are really smart and do really good while the average and bottom do bad

Yeah second this. You'd rather just control the controllable - don't stress too much about your cohort as long as you are doing well you will be fine

you escape being dragged down by the cohort by being ranked 1st, and performing well in the externals. in a general sense, if you are ranked 4th internally, and perform well externally, your internal mark will be equivalent to the 4th highest adjusted external mark.

again, in a broad sense, if you achieve a mark of 97 internally and are ranked 2nd, but not a single person in your cohort scores above an 85, it is assumed that your school exams were easy compared to the standard of the hsc exams, and the internal marks will be adjusted down to reflect this. conversely, if you achieve a mark of 62 and are ranked 2nd, but every person in your cohort scores a band 6, it will be assumed that your school exams were ridiculously hard and the marks will be adjusted upwards.
