having a little trouble with the coles-myer application

in the referees section, it asks u to name 2 refs. then it says to list ur duties.

what if u havent been employed b4???

ull find it very hard to be employed by coles then...

maybe you should look for other jobs till you have those 2 references

i know its a bitch- but it has to be done, unless you feel like dragging down school teachers and other ppl

Get the references off school teachers or tutors.
Put "learning" as all your duties.

You can't do much else right now. CM doesn't care what you set as your duties at this time. You need 2 referees to proceed to the Group Interview.
kthnx for that:0)

hey :) I've been checking my application with coles myer and I've moved to the "under consideration" stage. Can you give who got an interview tell me how long it took for you to move up to the interview stage :)

I'm really hoping they call me in soon. I'm desperate for a job these holidays :)

And if anyone else has a group interview coming up please let me know so I at least know if I missed out...

Mine was 'under consideration' for about two weeks i think. They do get thousands upon thousands of applications, so don't expect miracles.

My group interview was today at Pitt St. When I got there everyone was standing around trying not to talk to anyone else, but it livened up after a while. We went in and did the ID stuff, then they ask you to briefly introduce yourself (30sec). I told everyone how awesome I am and then the guy asked some questions like 'Does anyone know any advantages of working for ColesMyer?' (you say: 'Opportunity, Stability') and 'What are the qualities that ColesMyer is looking for?' ('Team player, People skills'), etc.

Then there was a group activity: We had to design a hypothetical store for the year 2020, with name, slogan, advertising stuff, what we sell and who we're aimed at. All this time, there was a guy watching us and taking notes. Then we all filled in forms and left.

They said they notify you within 10 days whether you passed that bit. If you did, they try to hook you up with a job that suits you.

Tips:
- Know a bit about ColesMyer.
- Read this
- Dress to impress. Just because it's coles doesn't mean you can wear shorts + tshirt. I was one of two guys in suits, and the recruitment officer guy was friendly to me and nasty to everyone else.
- Don't be shy. Don't be overbearing. Thin line.
- Speak CLEARLY. No mumbling.
- If you're a school student, you can use a copy of your report for your reference check if you take it with you.
- SMILE : )

I would not trade my officeworks job for any other retail job (unless they paid me $50/hr or something)

Mm.. might depend on the department you're allocated to. Which position at Officeworks did you get offered?

Well there are a few departments in Officeworks.
POS
Stationary
Business Machines (tech stuff)
Techworks (specialist tech department available at some stores)
Inkworks (printer consumerables, only available at some stores)
Furniture
Printworks (where photocopying, laminating, binding etc. get done for you)

From the sounds of it.. you're offered a temporary position for the annual Officeworks Back to School promotion. From my knowledge they only offer these positions for Stationary/Furniture and POS positions.. since well they don't necessarily require as much training as other departments to be a useful resource to the company (i.e for stationary it seems like the temp guys just stock up, maybe a few planograms but they're easy to learn).. and POS it's pretty easy to learn.

I've been working at Officeworks for awhile now.. I think it's a pretty good job, atleast compared to brands like Coles or Target. I work in the tech department, and although it's probably harder than most basic award positions at ColesMyer, it's great because it's invaluble work experience.

Dunno about others but I would certainly think POS at Officeworks is more enjoyable than that of most other brands (only other POS places I can think of that sounds also alright is Myer and Megamart (although the whole brand was recently sold off by CML)).

Which store did you get offered a position in?

i think it would more likely be POS coz i hav experience in that sort of area. btw, do u think there would be any chance in getting an extended position?
i got offered a position at liverpool, its a pretty big store i think.

There is, yes. Infact if my memory serves me correct, last year around half the people who were hired as casuals during Christmas at my store got offered a permanent part-time position.

They prolly will keep some of the christmas casuals, about 8 of us were hired this time last year and they kept 3 of us, who I was one.

Basically, work your ass off in the 3 months, however make sure you still do everything properly as it is very easy to screw things up if you rush.
